First Week of March Orders
| Our tasty and beautiful $20 box this week. |
Strawberries always tell us that Spring is really here and they were a welcome return this week! We got about half of them packaged in quart containers to reduce the plastic going on: so instead of two pints most of our Farmer pick boxes got one quart (the same quantity). They are nice large berries so it worked out very well. We are happy to report that everything went just fine with the rest of the produce harvests, other than that by 11:30pm on Monday we were sold out of Farmer Pick orders! Remember to order early for the best selection, there is always the possibility of missing out if you wait to long to order. : )
Mama Goat Red's Adventure
| The purple color on her shoulder is antibiotic spray. |
What an exciting week it has been since the last Newsletter! One of our Mama Goats "Red" was attacked by two strange dogs on our property last Friday. Thankfully a neighbor heard her calling and came to her rescue. She suffered three bad bite wounds but was surely saved from being killed. She is responding very well to treatment and by Wednesday morning she was almost able to stand on her own again (two of the wounds are on her shoulder so she could not walk or stand). Her two kids were big enough they did not need to be with her for milk anymore either. She will stay in her Private Pen getting lots of TLC and medication for about another week. The trespassing dogs are not known to us and have not been seen again, though they are on the Most Wanted List now! You can follow Red's recovery and read more Farm stories on our Facebook page.
New Supper Club Dates Our February Farmhouse Supper Club was really terrific! We have the next set of dates ready if you want to put in your Reservation for Sunday March 12th, Sunday April 9th and Mothers Day Sunday May 14th.
Pickup Location Changes
We know a lot of you are waiting to hear about how the Pickup Locations did for this week: we need at least 10 orders per week to cover the costs of delivery and some sites have been very low for several months. Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word to friends and neighbors! In particular the East Cobb location got a big boost from Karin, Joan & John and Sue. Orders were way, way up this week and we will definitely continue deliveries to The Cooks Warehouse. Likewise All Saints' Episcopal and Smyrna's Grateful Bread Company had very impressive surges and a bunch of emails requesting to keep these sites. Unfortunately, Care USA, Atlanta Community Food Bank and Cox Enterprises just do not have enough Members to keep us coming every week. Each has another pickup site within a few miles so at least there are good options to still get Real Food from our Farmers!
Update on Decatur: we are working to finalize a new Pickup Location in Decatur! The farm events this last week did set us back a bit but we should have an announcement in the next week or two. Also, the new Cook's Warehouse that is opening in Chamblee will be added so stay tuned for info if you are in that neck of the woods.
Please don't think we don't still want your referrals! There are so many new e-ways to keep in touch with neighbors now so mention us in community or church bulletins, school newsletters and don't stop spreading the word to co-workers. Posting a review of us on Facebook is always very appreciated and a suggestion came in on the survey to forward our emails to friends who might be interested. Thank you!
Online Market Survey A big thank you to everyone who took a few moments to take our quick survey. We learned a few things based on the responses:
- 70% told us they appreciate getting the Monday Order Reminder emails so those are back to stay. Too many emails for you? You can create a Folder in your Inbox for our incoming emails to automatically sort into - then you can view them when you like!
- 50% of the folks who answered let us know it would be fine to reduce packaging and the possibility of missing your Meat or Dairy items by including them in the main order box. We will make this change gradually: right now we have started putting Cheese and Butter in the boxes with a special label. Next step will be to pack other Dairy and Meat items in the box with a cooler pack. Look for details on this in the "Online Market is Open" email.
- We got a variety of responses about our program, the new website and how happy folks are with what we do. This only helps us to step it up and work harder for your support!

| | This soup is wonderful chilled or warm. |
Each week we highlight
some of the ingredients from our boxes with one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week! The Full Recipe is in the Wednesday Weekly Newsletter.

This time of year when we are on the edge of seasonal change we like to make this soup (Will would eat soup year round, he loves it so much!). Our version of this classic light and fresh chilled soup includes Kale, Spring Onions and Potatoes for a creamy bowl of goodness. And you can eat it warmed up, too.
2 pounds (4-5) Potatoes 5-6 Spring Onions ¼ pound Kale 4 Tablespoons Butter 2 cups Chicken or Vegetable Broth/Stock 2 cups Whole Milk or Cream Salt and pepper to taste 1. Wash, trim and chop Potatoes into 1" chunks, you want 2 cups of prepared Potatoes. Wash, trim and chop the Spring Onions, use both the white ends and the green tops. Wash, trim and chop the Kale, you should have about 2 cups. 2. Place the Potatoes in a soup pot and add water to cover. Season with salt and boil until just tender. Drain but keep the cooking water. 3. Melt the Butter in a skillet and cook the Spring Onions and Kale until wilted, remove from heat. Add the Onion-Kale mixture to the drained cooked Potatoes. Add the Chicken Broth and one cup of the Potato cooking water, season to taste with salt, pepper. Bring to a boil then turn the heat down a bit to simmer for 10-15 minutes. This is a Spring Soup so you don't want to overcook the vegetables. 4. Allow the soup to cool before pureeing with an immersion blender, vitamix or regular blender. You want the texture to be very smooth. Stir in the Milk or Cream and chill before serving. If necessary add more of the Potato cooking water to get the consistency you like.
