    Fabulous February Weather
Our $20 Farmer Pick box this week was half fruit, half green!
We know we might pay for the mild Winter weather later in the year but we can't help enjoying another nice week! It was also a terrific week of wonderful local food for our boxes. After the storms Tuesday our phone line went out at the Farm (this was really weird since the DSL internet was still on). When the repair fellow got here Wednesday it turned out a squirrel chewed on the wire, not related to the weather at all (unless you consider it was probably taking cover from the storm!). We sent out emergency "Contact Us" info and thankfully it wasn't one of those weeks with a lot of pickup problems, whew!

Our favorite Spring pic of Rosco photo-bombing the daffodils.
Will first brought me to the Farm in February 1993. Coming from Michigan at that time of year it was as if we dropped down into heaven! The grass was green and growing, daffodils blooming, sun shining, it was Spring. Little did we know how his family farm would figure in to our long range plans. This year feels a lot like that February in 1993 and as we get ready for another main season we can't help but reflect on how far we have come. As we evaluate the past year and plan for the next main season we are grateful for the life we have grown together. Here's to another great year! ~Laurie

    Pickup Location Changes?
So here is the heads-up, folks! These Pickup Locations have not had enough orders for some time to keep them going. We need at least 10 orders per week just to cover the costs of delivery. If you want us to keep coming we need to hear from you! Email us to let us know, spread the word to friends and family and order to show us you want to keep your site. Some folks have reported putting a notice in community or church bulletins, school newsletters and spreading the word to co-workers. Post a review of us on Facebook or send out a link to your Friends. We have had a great surge at the Buckhead - Sam Flax site so it is not on the list. We'll be making some changes to the delivery route at the end of the month so let us know if you want to keep your Pickup Location! These are the sites in danger and the number of orders we had for them this week:
    Care USA (1)
    All Saints Episcopal Church (3)
    Atlanta Community Food Bank (4)
    Cox Enterprises (2)
Cooks Warehouse - East Cobb (3)
Smyrna - The Grateful Bread Company (0)

    Online Market Survey
We want your opinion! Click here to send us your short answers to just five quick questions about our Online Market. One change we have made is to resume sending the Monday Order Reminder email based on Survey responses so far. Thanks!

    Weekly Recipe:
    Chocolate "Roots" Cake
They won't believe the "secret" ingredients!
    Each week we highlight
    some of the
ingredients from our boxes with  one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week! The Full Recipe will be in the Weekly Newsletter on Wednesday.

Laurie's mom Linda is always trying to make her baked goods and desserts more nutritious. Last year she developed a new recipe for a light and full-flavored chocolate cake that uses pureed Roasted Mixed Roots to add moisture and flavor. It has even appeared in the recipe section of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. This will be on the dessert menu this coming Sunday for our February Farmhouse Supper Club. We promise it doesn't taste like Rutabagas!

    Chocolate Roots Cake
2 cups cooked pureed Root Vegetables (Turnips, Rutabagas, Sweet Potatoes, Beets, etc.)
    2 cups All Purpose Flour
    1.5 cups Sugar
    1/2 cup Cocoa
    1.5 teaspoons Baking Soda
    3/4 teaspoon Salt
    2 large Eggs
3/4 cup warm Coffee (or sub with Water)
1/4 cup Vegetable or Canola Oil
    1 teaspoon Vanilla

Whisk dry ingredients until blended. In another bowl mix together wet ingredients, combine with dry ingredients. Bake in greased and floured cake pans at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean. Let this cake cool for 20 minutes in the pan before turning out. Dust with Powdered Sugar before serving.
(Another option is to add 2 Tablespoons grated fresh Orange Rind to the batter, the Organic Citrus we get from Florida is perfect for this since it has not been sprayed with any icky chemicals.)
