Our Orders This Week
Our $20 Farmer Pick for this week's deliveries.
So we had another terrific week of lovely harvests from our farms though we did have a couple of changes for our Farmer Pick boxes: the Lettuce did not arrive in good condition so we replaced with Swiss Chard for $20 boxes and Brussels Sprouts in for the $30 boxes. Hopefully everyone is happy with this substitution: if you have never chopped up Swiss Chard and enjoyed as a salad green we encourage you to try it this way! It is very flavorful and makes a terrific salad.

Our next Farmhouse Supper Club is coming up in February! Reservations must be made a head of time so check out the details here. We have extended our Winter Investment Offer and two passes for the Supper Club are part of the special! Click here for more info on that. (Supper Club reservations and Memberships can be purchased even when the rest of the Online Market is closed for ordering.) Our Winter Investment Offer expires Monday January 30th.

Pickup Location Changes
We're sorry to announce that our terrific East Atlanta Village Pickup Location Hodge Podge Coffee has had to bow out of hosting our deliveries due to space considerations. Fortunately we have two great options very close by! Both Grant Park (Bennett's Market) and Candler Park (Radial Cafe) are wonderful alternatives and just a mile or two from Hodge Podge. One of our longest-running sites is also closing: The Cook's Warehouse in Decatur has hosted our box pickups since they opened! An issue with the lease is necessitating the closure in February and a new location has not been determined. If any of our Members has suggestions for alternate Decatur hosts let us know, we're working on a few ideas and will keep everyone posted.

City Chickens
Some of our gals hanging out by the water cooler.
Are you interested in having your own backyard flock in Atlanta? One of our City Chicks owners are relocating to another state and they need to re-home their two hens and chicken coop. Email us if you are interested, we're hoping these girls can stay in the city (otherwise we'll bring them back to the Farm).

Weekly Recipes: Pork Chop Dinner
Each week we highlight some of the ingredients from our boxes with  one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week! The Full Recipe will be in the Weekly Newsletter on Wednesday.

Our Dinner Package makes a satisfying meal.
Our Pork Chop Dinner Package this week includes the main ingredients for a super tasty supper! You can't go wrong with Perfect Pork Chops, Cabbage Gratin, Roasted Sweet Potatoes and  Baked Apples, yum!

Perfect Pork Chops
1. Thaw and season pork chops with salt and pepper. If you like more of a crust dredge chops in flour.
2. Heat 2T Olive Oil in an oven-proof skillet (Will loves his iron skillets for meats!). Sear both sides of chops and also the edges so the fat gets browned a little, too. The fat in pasture-raised meats is not the same as grain-fed: we encourage you to enjoy the flavorful fat, a little is not bad for you.
3. Place skillet in 300 degree oven to finish cooking, about 15-20 minutes. Internal temperature should be 120 degrees. Take chops out and allow to rest before slicing and serving
. We generally cook Pork Chops to medium well done-ness: the only reason Pork has been cooked to well done in the past was because of Trichinosis which is virtually eradicated in the U.S. Just be sure not to overcook pasture-raised meats as they can get tough if you do!
Cabbage Gratin
This is a pretty fancy way to enjoy Cabbage, we think you will win over some folks who think they don't like this vegetable with this one.
1. Wash, trim and chop/shred Cabbage, you want 4 cups.
2. Saute Cabbage with 2 Tablespoons Butter, 1 chopped Onions and Garlic to your taste (optional).
3. Prepare sauce: make a roux with 2 Tablespoons Butter, stir in and cook 2 Tablespoons Flour, season with salt and pepper. Add 1/4 cup Chicken or Vegetable Broth and 1/2 cup Whole Milk or Cream. Stir while cooking over medium heat until sauce just starts to thicken.
4. Mix sauce with sauteed Cabbage, pour into baking dish. Top with Bread Crumbs (just pulse a couple of slices of bread in a food processor  or try Cornbread).
5. Bake in a 375 degree oven for 30 minutes until browned and bubbly.
Roasted Sweet Potatoes
Wash, trim, peel and slice 2-3 Sweet Potatoes. Place in a baking dish, dot with 1 Tablespoon Butter, drizzle with 2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup (or Honey), add 2 Tablespoons water. Cover and bake at 375 degrees for 30-40 minutes.
Baked Apples
Wash, trim, peel and slice 2-3 Apples. Place in a baking dish, dot with Butter, sprinkle with 1 teaspoon Sugar, 1 teaspoon Cinnamon and a dash of salt. Cover and bake at 375 degrees for 20-30 minutes. Serve as a side dish or as a dessert.
