Our Orders This Week
Yowza, our $20 Farmer Pick box this week sure is gorgeous!
Happy New Year as we celebrate 2017 with a terrific array of Real Food from our Real Farmers! All went really well as we return from our holiday break, there was just a couple of either/or items for Farmer Pick boxes: we were a little short on the beautiful Radishes and wonderful Tuscan Kale so we replaced with Pac Choi and Collard Greens. Enjoy!

Pickup Location Changes
We're sorry to announce that our terrific East Atlanta Village Pickup Location Hodge Podge Coffee has had to bow out of hosting our deliveries due to space considerations. Fortunately we have two great options very close by! Both Grant Park (Bennett's Market) and Candler Park (Radial Cafe) are wonderful alternatives and just a mile or two from Hodge Podge.

Farm Update: Baby Goats!
Most of the kids are white with brown spots or white all over.
Those of you who are plugged in with our Facebook page got our Baby Goat updates over the holidays: our Mama Goats had fourteen kids just before Christmas through New Years Day! We are still waiting for one more Mama but with the first three kids we have a total of seventeen little ones romping around the Farmyard. Yes, they are definitely TOO cute!

Weekly Recipes:
Cornbread and Johnny Cakes
Each week we highlight some  of the ingredients from our boxes with  one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week! The Full Recipes are in the Weekly Newsletter on Wednesday.

We are so proud to offer Saxon Gristmill Stoneground Cornmeal and Grits: this small scale family-run farm and mill grow their own heirloom bi-color Corn which is why it is so flavorful. Will has perfected a Gluten-Free Cornbread recipe so we have included it with the "regular" version. One great Gluten-Free tip: try using Gluten-Free Cornbread when making Meatballs instead of bread. The flavor and texture is really wonderful! Laurie loves Johnny Cakes, a Cornmeal-based type of pancake, perfect for Brunch.

Stoneground Cornbread
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix together in a large bowl: 1 cup Stone Ground Cornmeal, 1 cup All-Purpose Flour (for gluten-free use 2 cups Cornmeal), 4 Tablespoons Baking Powder, 2 Tablespoons Sugar, pinch of salt. In another bowl blend together: 1 cup Milk or Buttermilk, 1/2 cup Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil, 2 Eggs beaten.

Mix wet and dry ingredients until just combined, pour into a heated oiled cast iron skillet or buttered baking dish. Bake for 20 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.

Johnny Cakes
1-1/4 cups Milk
1 Tablespoon Butter
1 cup Stoneground Cornmeal
1/2 cup All Purpose Flour
2 Tablespoons Sugar
1 teaspoon Baking Powder
1 teaspoon Salt
1 Egg, lightly beaten
In a saucepan heat the Milk and Butter to a simmer. Place the Cornmeal in a small bowl and pour the hot Milk in, stir to combine. Cover with a plate or lid and let rest for 10 minutes.
In a mixing bowl combine the Flour, Sugar, Baking Powder, and Salt.
Stir the Cornmeal mixture into the dry ingredients and add the beaten Egg. Do not beat the batter, just stir together until combined.
Melt a pat of Butter on a griddle or iron skillet over medium heat, spoon batter onto griddle to make 3" - 4" pancakes and fry until crispy and brown on both sides.
Serve with Maple or Sorghum Syrup.

Saturday Farmers' Market
Our market is planning to be back on January 7th though we are on a weather alert until Friday as the forecast includes the possibility of snow and/or ice. Our wonderful Market Manager Holly Hollingsworth will send out an official notice Friday afternoon so if you get the market emails (or if you have Liked the market Facebook page) you will know for sure if we will be there! Many of our farmers simply cannot navigate our country roads if there is ice so we don't take any chances. Fingers crossed!
