Our Thanksgiving Week Orders
A rainbow of colors and flavors in our $20 box this week!
What a wonderful week of Good Food we delivered for Thanksgiving! Whether you enjoy incorporating your order items into family feasting or save it for after the holiday is over we are proud of the harvests that our group of farmers offer our Members every week. We wish for a delicious and loving holiday of Thanks for everyone, cheers!

Pickup Location Changes
We were sad to get word last week from The Mercantile in Candler Park that their retail growth meant they simply did not have space for our farm box deliveries anymore. We love the fine folks at The Mercantile and they have been wonderful hosts for us for many years. We are actively working on a new site near by and we expect to have an announcement after the holiday so don't worry if this has been your Pickup Location.

Now Accepting Amex
We keep forgetting to shout out that yes, we now can process American Express cards on our Online Market.

Give The Gift of Good Food
Thinking
about holiday gift giving? Our Gift Certificates are a great way to share our farmers' Good Food and we always have some folks who sign up for an Investment Membership in lieu of material goods.

Weekly Recipe: Holiday Pies
Butternut Squash "Pumpkin" & Homemade Pecan
Each week we highlight some of the ingredients from our boxes with one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week!

Did you know that the Canned Pumpkin sold in grocery stores is often actually Butternut Squash? It's true! This came about many years ago when the canning companies realized they were going to have a serious shortage of Pumpkins due to crop loss so they tried using Butternut Squash as a substitute and no one knew the difference! This week we have our own Butternut "Pumpkin" Pie recipe, we hope you feel adventurous and try it for the holiday maybe with our Homemade Pecan Pie!

Prepare pie crust: we use the roll-out refrigerator type from the grocery store and the pre-formed ones are good too. Don't feel guilty about using a prepared crust, they are very good, some are even organic. Check the ingredients label to be sure you get a good quality crust. Of course making a pie crust from scratch crust is fantastic but it takes practice. Here is a link to a great pastry crust recipe if you want to go homemade.

Butternut "Pumpkin" Pie
Prepare Butternut: rinse the Butternut to remove any residual dirt (it is straight from the Farm!). Cut lengthwise in half and scoop out the seeds (reserve to toast if you like them!). Place the two halves cut-side down on a lined baking sheet and roast in a 400-degree oven for 20-30 minutes. The skin with be dry and crusty and a bit shriveled up when it's done. Allow to cool then scoop out the pulp. You can use the pulp at this stage but for a creamier textured pie run it through a food mill, strainer or beat well in a mixer until smooth. You may have more than two cups, refrigerate or freeze the rest for soup.

2 cups mashed cooked Butternut Squash
(1) 12-ounce can evaporated milk
2 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon*
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon salt
Combine the Butternut with evaporated milk, eggs, brown sugar, spices and salt using an electric mixer or food processor. Pour mixture into prepared crust. Bake for 40 minutes at 400 degrees or until when a knife is inserted in the middle comes out clean. Allow to cool for at least an hour before serving. *You can use 1-1/2 to 2 teaspoons Pumpkin Pie Spice instead of the separate spices if that's what you have.

Homemade Pecan Pie
1 cup Light Corn Syrup (or Sorghum Syrup)
3 eggs, beaten
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 teaspoons Vanilla Extract
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 cups chopped pecans
1 prepared pie crust (see previous recipe)
Mix corn syrup, eggs, sugar, butter and vanilla using a spoon. (If you beat this filling in a mixer it can incorporate air into the mixture and possibly spill over the crust when baking.) Stir in pecans, pour filling into pie crust. Bake on center rack of pre-heated 350 degree oven for 60 to 70 minutes, center should be set. Cool for 2 hours before serving.
