Online Market Orders This Week
First things first: Baby Goat update! So far just the three babies, two for Baby Girl and Mama Frida only had one. That is unusual for her fourth kidding, but Nutmeg is a BIG girl so that's fine, too. She is twice the size of the female that Baby Girl had (we're calling her Tinkerbell). There are three Goat Mamas getting ready next, they should be kidding in another week or so, stay tuned and breaking news will always be posted on our Moore Farms and Friends Facebook page. It's nice having a natural progression instead of managing their pregnancies so that they have them all at once. We still have eleven more mamas to go!

All went just great for harvests ad delivers from the farms as our Late Summer produce keeps on coming with the delayed Fall temperature changes. Cool nights won't stop the Tomatoes until it gets down to the 50's! We're really happy to have the White Sweet Potatoes back from ECO (Eastern Carolina Organics) a co-op of farmers based in Durham, NC. They have a nice firm texture and are not as high in sugar as "regular" ones so they make great mashed potatoes or cut up and roasted for oven fries. Check out our White Sweet Potato & Kale Soup recipe below, it's a winner!

Website Updates
This is the last week we will run the website info:
We were able to print our box labels again this week (yay!) so you will see the pretty new ones when you pickup with your Member Name nice and big, easy to read. Our Packing Slips are slimmed down and so much easier for us to read when we are packing orders (we had some difficulties with them the first couple of weeks!). Many thanks to our Members who asked for some refinements: you will now find a quicker "Add To Cart" function so it's easier to navigate while shopping. Let us know if you see anything that needs tweaking and we appreciate your input! We still have a few things we're working on: our customer account notes didn't transfer over so if we owed you an item please don't hesitate to put a Comment on there to remind us, we're working on this. If you have not yet logged in to your new account be sure to use the default password
friends
then you can click on your Account Details to change. If your account is not found more than likely your Annual Membership was expired but send us an email and we'll look it up to be sure.
Some of the changes and updates you will find on the new Online Market include:
- Our Farmer Pick Forecasts are listed on the Online Market so you can easily view them anytime.
- Investment Accounts are now calculated on the site so you can always look up your balance when you login. Laurie is SO happy about this! Our Fall Investment Incentive is now on offer through November 19th, see link on the sidebar.
- We will only send you two emails per week: the "Online Market is Open" and our "Weekly Newsletter". We have eliminated the Monday "Order Reminder" so don't forget to order by Midnight Monday!
- While we have not raised product prices we have rounded up our Annual Membership Fee to $36 ($3 per month). This covers the cost of our boxes, labels and packaging.
- Our Recipes are searchable by ingredient! We're still uploading more of them and photos, it will be easy to find great new ways to prepare and enjoy that delicious mystery vegetable.
What has not changed is the wonderful array of locally grown Real Food from our wonderful Farmers. Cheers and thank you for your support! What has not changed is the wonderful array of locally grown Real Food from our wonderful Farmers.

Each week we highlight some of the ingredients from our boxes with one of our own Farmhouse Recipes. This is the way we cook here on the Farm with our limited kitchen time but love of Good Food. We hope to inspire you to try something new, even if it's just one All-Local Meal a week!
White Sweet Potato & Kale Soup
 |
|
Surprisingly light, this recipe is a lovely way to celebrate both vegetables in our Farmer Pick boxes.
1. Wash, trim and peel 2-3 White Sweet Potatoes, about 2-1/2 cups. Chop into 2" chunks, toss with just enough Olive Oil to coat. If you have whole Cardamom Seeds add 3-4 to the potatoes and remove after roasting. If not, use ground Cardamom and sprinkle 1/2 teaspoon over potatoes. No Cardamom? Try Cumin or another spice of your choosing, just keep it light so the flavor doesn't overpower the vegetables. Roast in a hot (400 degree) oven for 15-20 minutes or until potatoes are just tender and starting to brown a bit. Allow to rest. (Alternatively you can steam the Sweet Potatoes and spices.)
2. Wash, trim and chop ½ - ¾ pound Kale. Sauté until tender with 2T Olive Oil, season with salt and pepper.
3. Add Kale to the Sweet Potatoes in a large soup pot. Add 4 cups Chicken or Vegetable Broth, simmer for 15 minutes. Puree using an immersion blender (or food processor) until smooth. Add 1 can Coconut Milk and additional water and/or broth if soup is too thick. Season with salt and pepper. Laurie likes the Kale left a little larger and Will likes it more pureed so you can experiment with the texture. Will serves with Cornbread and Butter.
