Weekly Recipe:
Homemade Applesauce
Easy to make and so much better tasting than store-bought! We hope you try our tips our variations inspire you to try making your own. Keeps well in the fridge for up to 6 weeks or you can freeze your Applesauce, too!
ApplesauceWash, trim, core and chop finely 4 cups apples, about 4-6 fruits. It is not necessary to peel the Apples. Place in a soup pot and cover with water, add just a pinch of salt. Cook on medium heat for about five minutes then turn down to low. Simmer uncovered for 30 minutes or until soft enough to mash. For chunky sauce use a potato masher, for creamy sauce place in a food processor or blender. Add sugar or honey to taste. Allow to cool before placing in jars or other containers. Variations: 1. Add Cinnamon, Cardamom, Nutmeg or other spices to taste while Apples are still hot. One of our surprise spices is Cumin, it's really good with Cinnamon! 2. Try a little heat! We have added chopped fresh Cayenne Peppers, this is terrific on pork chops. 3. Homemade Applesauce makes a wonderful breakfast with yogurt and granola. 4. Try it on Ice Cream with toasted Pecans, yum!
