Moore Farms
Orders This Week
Our $20 Farmer Pick box this week full of nutritious goodness!

What a great week of farm harvests, most of us have caught enough of the recent rains that we are all happy. We only had a few exceptions to the Farmer Pick Forecast: we didn't quite have enough Vidalia Onions so some

Kids love our Local Fruits, this is the first week for Beech Creek Orchard's amazing Nectarines (we'll have them at market, too!
folks got a second Tomato instead and we ended up with a lot more Summer Squash ('tis the season) so we put it in the boxes in place of the planned Potatoes. Blackberries were really abundant so we switched up Fruit Only Boxes, sending two Blackberries and one Blueberry (instead of the other way around). Hopefully everyone was really happy with these small changes! Don't forget about our July 4th schedule (details below) we will be off for a short Summer Break. . . if you didn't get your order in this week come see us at market on Saturday! We'll have lots more fruit including Melons from Beech Creek Orchards along with all of our other staples. Interested in a flat of Blueberries? Email us and we'll have it ready for you to pick up at market for our discounted Online Market price!

Fourth of July Holiday Schedule
We have heard from a lot of our Members that they will be out of town this year for 4th of July so we decided to take a little Summer Break ourselves. We will not have deliveries Wednesday July 6th or Thursday July 7th but we will be at the Freedom Farmers Market at The Carter Center on the two Saturdays before and after. Regular Online Market deliveries will pick back up for the week of July 11th.

Weekly Recipes:
Farmhouse Summer Salads
Summer Slaw 06.29.2011
We share our top three salads for Summer BBQ sides, just in time for 4th of July celebrations. We think our recipes for Veggie Slaw, Sweet Potato Salad and a deliciously different Fruit Salad will be hits with your friends and family!

FARMHOUSE VEGGIE SLAW
Trim, wash and grate or chop 1/2 Green Cabbage, 1/4 Red Cabbage, 1 Vidalia Onion, 1 Bell Pepper, 2 peeled Kohlrabi and 1 seeded Cucumber. Add other veggies you like such as Carrots, Turnips, etc. Stir in  our Yogurt Dressing and chill before serving. Yogurt Dressing: Mix together 1 1/2 cups Atlanta Fresh Plain Greek Yogurt, 1/2 cup Mayonnaise, the juice of one Lemon, 2 Tablespoons Honey, 2 Tablespoons Dijon Mustard, salt and pepper to taste. If you like add chopped fresh Herbs, too.

SWEET POTATO SALAD Wash, trim and peel 4-6 Sweet Potatoes, chop into cubes (plan on 1/2 cup per person). Steam or boil until tender, drain and set aside.
Mix together:
1/3 cup Mayonnaise
1-2 teaspoons Wasabi Paste (if desired)
2T Sesame Oil
1T Soy Sauce
1T Honey
1T Rice Wine Vinegar
2 teaspoons fresh grated or powdered Ginger
salt and pepper to taste
Chop: 1/3 cup Vidalia Onion, 1/3 cup Celery
Combine Sweet Potatoes, chopped Onions and Celery and Dressing, chill well before serving.

"SWEET TEA" FRUIT SALAD Wash, trim and chop a mixture of your favorite Fruits, we used 4 cups of Fruit for the dish. This week it was our local Peaches, Nectarines, Plums, Blueberries and Blackberries. Other fruits such as Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Apples, Grapes, Pineapple, etc., would all be great in there, too!
Prepare Fruit "Marinade": steep 2 Chai or Earl Grey tea bags in 1 cup hot water (just like you are making a cup of tea). Add 1 teaspoon ground Cardamom, 4 Tablespoons Honey, a pinch of salt and several good grinds of fresh Black Pepper. Simmer this mixture until the liquid reduces to half, allow to cool. "Marinate" the Fruit Salad in the tea dressing for at least an hour before serving.
