Wonderful Orders This Week!
| A nice variety of Fruit and Veg in this week's $20 Farmer Pick box. |
Wonderful especially considering the Winter blast (we sure are enjoying the nicer weather now!). We had a few crops take a hit but hopefully we'll get some new growth with the sunshine and warmer temps. This time of year is always a bit of a gamble for all of us but a lot of our growers have unheated Hoophouse or Greenhouse production now so that helps hedge our bets again Mother Nature. Everything

went pretty well with harvests and farmer reports so nothing crazy going on with the boxes, yay! We're celebrating the New Yearwith the first harvest of our Red Stemmed Pussy Willow bunches! No, they are not edible, these flowering branches are a symbol of the Chinese New Year (first week of February) and are a favorite of our long-time Online Market Members. We'll have more next week if you didn't get any and hopefully some left to take to market on the 13th. Looking for something to do with the Rutabagas in this week's box? They are really delicious cooked simply: wash, peel, slice, steam or boil and serve with a little salt and pepper and a dab of butter. Rutabagas lend a very rich flavor to soups and stews: if you have picky eaters you can grate them up before adding to a soup, they will almost "melt" into the background. Or try steaming or boiling with the Potatoes and mashing them together, yum!
We are so excited to re-start our deliveries to Cox Enterprises! We have a terrific new site for box pickups (the Rotunda). Many, many thanks to Rachel Azriel for helping to make it possible for us to bring our Good Food back to Cox families! Click here for details.
Our deliveries to our longest-running Pickup Location, Trinity Presbyterian Church will be nudged back to 1pm - 7pm starting next week to make a little room in the delivery route.
Welcome to our new Grant Park pickup location! The Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School staff now have deliveries directly to the school. (We expect to add another nearby site soon for the rest of the neighborhood so stay tuned!)
Weekly Recipe: Citrus Kale Salad
Featured in our Soup & Salad Box this week, this delicious salad is hearty enough to be a lunch entree (pictured here from one of our lunches on the farm this week, with the addition of Capra Gia Feta Cheese)!
Citrus Kale Salad
1. Wash, trim and slice 2 Beets, steam or boil until tender. Chill in the refrigerator. 2. Wash, trim and chop Kale leaves, place into large salad bowl. 3. Peel and segment (or just cut into chunks) two Grapefruits, reserving ¼ cup of the juice for the dressing. 4. Wash, core and chop 2-3 Apples. 5. Chop chilled Beets into bite-sized chunks. 6. Combine Kale, Apples and Grapefruit segments in the bowl, toss with Citrus Vinaigrette. Allow Salad to rest for 5-10 minutes or longer (the Kale will soften a bit with the dressing). Top with the Beets just before serving.
Citrus Vinaigrette: Mix together the reserved Grapefruit juice, 2T Apple Cider Vinegar and 1/4 cup Olive Oil, season with salt and pepper and a Tablespoon of Honey.
