Moore Farms
Lovely Fall Orders
Some of the prettiest and most delicious Green Beans we have had all year in this week's Farmer Pick boxes! This is a pic of our $20 order.
Just one pretty box of Good Food pictured here, our $20 Farmer Pick box has the first of the Pink Lady Apples (yay!) some beautiful Green Beans (maybe last picking!) as well as end of Tomatoes and aren't those Shiitake Mushrooms gorgeous? Just makes you happy thinking about all the yummy meals to make with these tasty ingredients. Nothing weird, off or otherwise snafu'ed to report so everyone should find just what they expect in the boxes, cheers!

**Please be sure to put our holiday delivery dates on your calendar, details are at right. We are getting away this year for Thanksgiving so we're not on the Farm to take calls about why the website is closed! : )

We are having a Chicken Egg shortage at the moment as many of our producers are experiencing seasonal molting (a natural "break" for our girls). It is important that our hens have this time off in their egg-laying cycle. Some farms "trick" their hens' internal timers by keeping artificial lights on 24-hours a day but this is considered inhumane and we do not do this. The answer to fill the egg gap is to have young hens who start to lay during the molting cycle of the older birds. Our girls are just a little behind this year but please know this is a normal part of eating locally: sometimes there are ups and downs in production! We are being very conservative on Egg estimates for the time being so if you miss them when you order please make a note in the Comments and we will fill Egg requests as best we can. For more information about molting check out our favorite website The Chicken Chick.

Weekly Recipe: Hearty Vegetable Soup
This soup just gets better the next day!
Soup is a staple in the Farmhouse when the weather turns cool and is more often than not served for lunch on our order packing days. Easy, satisfying and filling, our Hearty Vegetable Soup will surely be one of your favorites, too! We have the ingredients for this one in our Soup & Salad Box this week. Paired with Salad and Cornbread folks will be happy they came to the table for your meal!

Ingredients: 1-2 Tomatoes; 1/2 pound Green Beans; 1-2 pounds Potatoes; 1/2 - 3/4 pound Collard Greens; 1/2 Sweet Pepper; 1 small Onion and 2-3 cloves Garlic; Chicken or Vegetable Broth.

1. Wash, trim and chop Tomatoes, Green Beans, Potatoes, Collard Greens, Pepper, Onion and Garlic.
2. In a large soup pot heat 3T Olive Oil, add Potatoes, Pepper and Onion, season with salt and pepper and saute for 3-5 minutes. Add Green Beans, Tomatoes and Collards, cook for another 1-2 minutes. Add 4-6 cups of Chicken or Vegetable Broth and the Garlic. Bring so a simmer and check again for seasoning, add salt/pepper if necessary.
3. Simmer for 20-30 minutes or until desired consistency.

Serve with Cornbread and Salad. This Soup is great the next day for lunch!
