Our lovely $20 Farmer Pick order for this week's deliveries.
|
We had such a terrific order week with lots of returning items just in time for cool weather meals: Saxon Gristmill Grits and Cornmeal (SO good!), Pecan Point Pecans, Yogurt Salad Dressings from Atlanta Fresh as well as our own Hot Sauces and Herbal Vinegars, yum! We have been enjoying the great weather with a nice break from rain so we all can get more done on the farms, wrapping up late Summer and surging into Fall and Winter crop production. It's going to be a delicious Soup Season!
Baby Goat Update

Miss Guinness has certainly been an adventure!
| We wanted to finish telling the story about our little Baby Goat Miss Guinness. For those of you who happened to miss this she was one of our ten kids born this Fall to our five Goat Mamas. Her Mama Niblet just decided two kids was more than she wanted to deal with and she rejected Miss Guinness from day one. She has grown so fast and is doing fantastic. Our friends at Decimal Place Farm, Capra Gia Cheese Company and Pecan Point Farm helped us with raw milk for her (thank you!!) and she is now weaning off of the bottle feedings that have kept us more than a little wrapped up. Miss Guinness visited Atlanta a few times, accompanying us to the Freedom Farmers' Market so a lot of folks got to meet her! She has gradually been re-introduced to her Goat herd with no problems and is now living full-time in the Farmyard. Today she even made her first foray into the woods with the rest of the Goats, foraging and feeding with the rest of her family. Her sister Latte accepted her right away so that helped a lot, and her mother never had a problem with her being around, she just didn't give her any attention. Hopefully by the end of the week she will be transitioned to Goat kibble and we can put the bottles away! We'll include photos of her as she grows up and Members can visit her for Farm Days or our Farmhouse Supper Clubs when they resume in the Spring. Cheers, Miss
Guinness!
Automatic Farmer Pick Ordering
We have an exciting new option for ordering, this came from suggestions we have received for some time and we figured out how to make it work on our end. Of course some of the best things that make our Online Market unique are the Custom Choice ordering, ability to switch Pickup Locations with each order and only ordering when you want to get a box. However, we have folks say they would like have a more traditional automatic order so we now have 10-week Farmer Pick ordering options! The straight story here is the ten weeks of deliveries begin when you place the first order and they will be automatically delivered each week to the same Pickup Location. Sorry but we can't alter the 10-week set up in our system so if you go out of town you need to have a friend pick up your box for you. What it does do is take the pressure off of remembering to order. Cool, huh? Hope this helps to make one more way it's easier for you to enjoy the Good Food coming from our group of Farmer Friends!
Pickup Location Updates
Alright, we have had a lot of terrific feedback on the following Locations that needed a bump up if we are going to continue deliveries. We're happy to say that at this time we won't be making any other changes and these sites are good to go. We do still need more folks to participate in these areas as they are still on the low side but we have heard from you loud and clear that you want us to keep coming and so we will!
- Smyrna Grateful Bread Company - getting a boost from King Valley neighborhood group!
- Atlanta Community Food Bank - several new folks, yay!
- East Cobb Cooks Warehouse - heard the most from folks in this neck of the woods, thank you for your support!
- Emory University - been better every week, thank you for ordering!
- Garrison Afterschool - steady Member support here!

Chopped Veggie Salad
This lovely salad dish is perfect to show off and enjoy lots of different veggies! Yummy for lunch, light supper or brunch. You can choose whatever mix of Veggies you like but the more colorful the better. Here we used Beets, Carrots, Red and Yellow Pepper, Green Onions and Kohlrabi. 1. Wash, trim and chop your choice of vegetables. For roots such as Beets and Carrots steam or boil gently until just tender, cool in the fridge. Other veggies such as Kohlrabi, Peppers, Green Onions use fresh. 2. Layer prepared vegetables in glass serving bowls or arrange on plates in a pretty pattern. 3. Crumble Cheese of your choice (we used Capra Gia Persian Feta) on top. 4. Chill in the fridge and drizzle with your favorite dressing just before serving. If you like you can arrange on a bed of chopped Kale or Lettuces. Herb Cubes One of our Members sent us this technique a few years ago for putting up fresh herbs to use during the Winter for soups, casseroles, sauces, etc. It's fun and easy, a great trick to learn and the kids can help with this one, too! 1. Wash and trim fresh Basil, Parsley or other fresh green herbs (a mix is nice, too!) 2. Place in blender and slowly add enough olive or vegetable oil to make a thin paste (consistency should be pour-able). 3. Pour into ice cube trays and freeze until solid (you may want to wrap trays in foil or plastic wrap to keep your freezer from taking on the basil odor). 4. Remove cubes to zip bags or other sealed freezer container and use for seasoning dishes you want fresh basil flavor!
