Moore Farms
Orders for This Beautiful Week!
Our $20 Farmer Pick box this week, packed with flavor and nutrition, too!
Oh my gosh such beautiful Fall weather this week! It's always a little bittersweet for us as we hate to clear off the Summer fields but Fall planting is going on with our farms like crazy. Each week we'll have more new and returning produce items as the seasons shift so we can look forward to more Good Food goodness. One note about the Salad Mix from Rise 'n Shine Farm: it had rained the day before they cut the tender Baby Lettuce so it will need another good wash or two when you get your box. Remember none of our produce is ever washed and ready to eat! All went just great with harvests and deliveries so no substitutions or "either-ors" to report, we hope everyone enjoys their boxes!
Yep, that's right, another goat picture! Miss Guinness is growing fast.
Miss Guinness had an exciting weekend in Atlanta and is now living full-time with her Goat Family. She is still getting bottle-fed every 4 hours or so but is running and playing and sleeping with her sister and the other eight kids and 5 Mama Goats in the farmyard. Many many thanks to our friends at Decimal Place Farm, Capra Gia and Pecan Point for helping us with sourcing the raw milk we needed for her. We are so happy to report that she is thriving.
Papa Muscovy Duck watching over the Ducklings in the pond.
We have had another Farmyard Story going on and have not had time to tell it yet: our Mama Muscovy Duck who had been sitting on a nest of eggs (sometimes at the same time with a Chicken, you may remember!) hatched a little Duckling. At the same time we put six Duck Eggs in the incubator with our Chicken Eggs. Four of our Duck Eggs hatched and one of hers hatched. After a couple of days we put the Ducklings we hatched with the Mama at night and she took them! So she is Mama Duck to five little Ducklings, yay! Today the Papa Duck was watching the Ducklings in one of the Duck Ponds as they took their first swim (we had to take the picture from around the corner so he wouldn't get upset).

Automatic Farmer Pick Ordering
We have an exciting new option for ordering, this came from suggestions we have received for some time and we figured out how to make it work on our end. Of course some of the best things that make our Online Market unique are the Custom Choice ordering, ability to switch Pickup Locations with each order and only ordering when you want to get a box. However, we have folks say they would like have a more traditional automatic order so we now have
10-week Farmer Pick ordering options. The straight story here is the ten weeks of deliveries begin when you place the first order and they will be automatically delivered each week to the same Pickup Location. Sorry but we can't alter the 10-week set up in our system so if you go out of town you need to have a friend pick up your box for you. What it does do is take the pressure off of remembering to order. Cool, huh? Hope this helps to make one more way it's easier for you to enjoy the Good Food coming from our group of Farmer Friends!

Pickup Location Changes
Cox Enterprises deliveries will start very soon and we're in the final couple of weeks to decide which other Pickup Locations need to be cut to make time in the delivery route. If you want to keep the following locations we need to know it ASAP. Email us, place your orders and tell your friends. Let us know if you want some coupons to give out, too. We have had some terrific responses so far but we need to know if you want us to keep these locations:
  • Smyrna Grateful Bread Company - Just one box delivered this week!
  • Atlanta Community Food Bank - Up to eight this week, yay!
  • East Cobb Cooks Warehouse - You all are getting is going up there!
  • Emory University - Excellent order this week!
  • Garrison Afterschool - Come on VaHi we know you all are there!! Only three orders this week. . .

Thanks to all of the folks who attended our Freedom Farmers' Market Fundraiser at Floataway Cafe on Sunday! It was a lovely evening with delicious food from great chefs and we made our goal for our market operating budget. We were especially happy to enjoy the event with our Online Market Investment Members Alice Washington and Veronika Zarnitsyna, so nice to have time to get to know the folks who support our local farmers!

Weekly Recipe: Fall Root Gratin
A delicious and satisfying dish for cool Fall nights!
So Kohlrabi (a Cabbage cousin) is not actually a Root Vegetable but we tend to treat it as one here at the farm. It is terrific cooked or raw and we think it's incredible combined with Potatoes for this dish. Makes a great side or a filling vegetarian entree.

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees, recipe serves four as a side dish.
1. Wash, trim and very thinly slice 5-6 Potatoes (you will need 2 cups) and 1-2 Kohlrabi (1 cup). Peel these vegetables if you like but it's not necessary. Thinly slice 1 Onion and/or crush 2 cloves Garlic (optional).
2. Butter a baking dish and layer the Potatoes, Kohlrabi and Onion/Garlic alternating veggies for each layer.
3. In a bowl mix together 1 cup Whole Milk or Cream, 1 beaten Egg, salt and pepper to taste. Pour over vegetables in baking dish.
4. Grate 1/2 cup cheese of your choice (we like any of the Wright Dairy Cheeses for this). Sprinkle grated cheese over top of the baking dish and cover with lid or foil.
5. Bake for 30 minutes, remove cover and bake for an additional 20-30 minutes or until browned and bubbly. Allow to rest before serving.
