Our beauty box this week! $20 Farmer Pick order.
|
It's hard to believe it's the first of October already, seems like Spring was yesterday. This was a fun and funny week for us: our last Chick hatch of the year started off fantastically with 90% success (that's really good), Miss Guinness is blossoming every day and has started to integrate well with the other Baby Goats (we just don't need a Porch Goat) and if you have been following the Fox Family story (foxes visiting the Farm during the night) we think our dog Sweet Pea has run them off as they seem to have moved on. Oh, and we had a neighbor's Cows visit the field yesterday! Looked up from Farmyard chores to see eight adult Cows munching away at the remnants of the Summer crops. All things considered we were thrilled that everyone's harvests came in on time and all was well. One note about the Green Beans from Signal Mountain Farm this week: they have been just wonderful for the last few weeks but now the weather has caught up with them and they do have some rust - the results from a lot of rain all at once. Nothing wrong with them at all they just look a little discolored! |

We loved Brownlee Curry's selfie with our baby goat at market!

We had a wonderful day at Freedom Farmers Market last Saturday, Miss Guinness was a hit despite her dislike of the wet weather! Come see us again this week as she will have an encore appearance at market. New Ordering Option We have an exciting new option for ordering, this came from suggestions we have received for some time and we figured out how to make it work on our end. First of all, some of the best things that make our Online Market unique are the Custom Choice ordering, ability to switch Pickup Locations with each order if you like and only ordering when you want to get a box. However, we have had a bunch of folks say they would rather have a more traditional pre-order option. SO we now have 10-week Farmer Pick ordering options! The straight story here is the ten weeks of deliveries begin when you place the first order and they will be automatically delivered each week to the same Pickup Location. Sorry but we can't alter the 10-week set up in our system so if you go out of town you need to have a friend pick up your box for you. What it does do is take the pressure off of remembering to order. Cool, huh? Hope this helps to make one more way it's easier for you to enjoy the Good Food coming from our group of Farmer Friends!
Pickup Location Changes
So we are working on final details for Cox Communications to start weekly deliveries! We're super excited about this since we had great support there in the past but needed a better system for pickups. We are almost ready to announce the new plan but in the meantime we need to make some room in the delivery route to accommodate for a big new site. Some of our wonderful Pickup Locations have been skating by for a while now with only a few Members supporting them. If you want to keep the following locations we need to know it ASAP. Place your orders and tell your friends. Let us know if you want some coupons to give out, too. We have had some terrific responses so far but we need to know if you want us to keep these sites:
- Smyrna Grateful Bread Company - getting good feedback for this one but only had ONE order for this week!
- Atlanta Community Food Bank - getting great response!
- Tucker Mother Nature's - sorry, we had to remove from deliveries
- East Cobb Cooks Warehouse - hearing from a lot of you for East Cobb thank you and let us know if we had not heard from you yet!
- Emory University - hearing from a few folks. . .
- Clifton Schools - so sad, last week was final deliveries.
- Garrison Afterschool - hearing from a bunch of folks but only TWO orders this week!

Weekly Recipe: Hot Pepper Apple Pie
|
| |
Jackie made us a pie for Farm Lunch decorated with Fall leaf crust cut-outs!
|
If you have not had the pleasure of tasting this special flavor combination please trust us when we tell you it is outstanding! Our good friend and farm colleague Jackie Carr came up with this a few years ago and we don't know anyone who has tried it who didn't love it.
For the crust we don't have any problem with using store-bought but if you would like to make your own here is the one Jackie uses: Pie Crust recipe.
1. Wash, peel and slice 8-10 Apples (pretty much any kind will be great).
2. Layer Apples in prepared pie crust (make your own or use a purchased pie shell). 3. In a saucepan melt 1/2 cup Butter and add 3 Tablespoons flour. Stir to combine and add 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup Hot Pepper Jelly. 4. Bring Pepper Jelly mixture to a boil, stirring to keep from sticking. Pour hot mixture over apples. 5. Set top crust over the Apples, either a full pie crust or use cookie cutters to make cool shapes like the leaves Jackie used! 6. Brush a little of the Hot Pepper Jelly mixture on top of the crust to glaze.
Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes then turn heat down to 350 and bake for another hour or until crust is golden brown. Allow to cool before serving.
