Moore Farms
Terrific Orders This Week!
Our beautiful and delicious $20 Farmer Pick box this week.
All went pretty well this week with all of our orders, yay! Signal Mountain Farm picked their Broccoli the way we like it: with the lovely leaves still attached. These dark green leaves are full of nutrients and are super tasty! If you like Kale you will love them so don't toss them in the compost! It's a fun and exhilarating time of year for all of our farms as every week the harvests get more diverse and we are all busy planting, weeding and picking. We have had the privilege of hosting a really special young man from France at Moore Farms for a few weeks. Marouane has completed
Our WWOOF-er Marouane helped Laurie complete a new chicken house.
his year at Johns Hopkins University and wanted to travel a bit in the Southern U.S. before retuning to Paris to start his teaching career. He has been a great help providing an extra pair of hands, everything from planting and weeding and packing orders to working on the new chicken house. We participate in the international WWOOF program and have hosted dozens of wonderful young folks over the years: wwoofusa.org.
The "Three Amigos" taking one of several afternoon naps.
And for everyone's dose of CUTE this week we were happy that our friend and co-worker Jackie Carr brought her kittens to work with her! These little kittens are at that adventurous age where everything is something fun to get into trouble with so she wanted to keep an eye on them. Awwwww!

Moore Farms City Chicks
We have some beautiful Chick Mixes this year!
If you have ever thought about being a City Chicken owner we are ready and willing to enable your aspirations! Our Moore Farms City Chicks program set up a dozen Atlanta families with their very own backyard flock "starter kit" last year. Our first little ones moved to their new Decatur digs this week! We provide everything you need to get started, you just supply the coop (you can build your own or there are LOTS of kits you can find online). Advantages of our program include a Rooster Return guarantee and 24/7 Tech Support. Check out the details here and put in your reservation for your Chicks!
From the Farmers
We are very proud to bring our farm harvests to your family's table and we always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for supporting your local food system!

Moore Farms and Friends Farm to School Program
We often get requests from schools to host our pickups but with most educational calendars it's difficult for us to make it work. As an alternative we have Partnered with these Atlanta area schools: new and renewing Members let us know they were referred by their school and we give back $5 to the PTA, school garden or other designated program. Ask us about adding your school to the referral list!

CHILLED
ASPARAGUS SOUP
We had a blast again this year sharing our farmer's Good Food with the wonderful folks who visited us in the Atlanta Food & Wine Festival's Tasting Tents! All of the tastings we offered were local, organic, raw and vegan: cool, right? Laurie's Chilled Asparagus Soup was such a hit we promised to share the recipe so here it is! Many thanks to our good friend and colleague Tracy Stuckrath of Thrive! Meetings and Events for her support, postings, photos and energy.

Serves 2-4 folks.

1. Wash, trim and chop 1/2 pound Asparagus, 2-3 Spring Onions and 1-2 Summer Squash into large pieces.

2. Steam or simmer vegetables for 5-10 minutes until just tender (do not overcook!).

3. Season with salt and pepper, add 1 can of Coconut Milk and puree with an immersion blender, food processor or our favorite new machine a Vitamix!

4. Serve at room temperature or chilled with a little sprinkle of chopped Asparagus and a drizzle of Georgia Olive Oil for garnish.
