Our beauty $20 Farmer Pick this week!
|
Just another great week of lief on the Farm! All went terrific for farmer harvests and deliveries and the only thing that was a little weird was the "Baby Beets" should have been described to us as "Beet Greens" or "Teeny Beets with Beautiful Tops"! We doubled them up for everyone at a loss for us but at least they are some delicious and nutritious braising or salad greens to enjoy. Weather has been amazing as we have had plenty of time for tilling, planting and yes, weeding already before the next rain forecast. We'll have a taste of Summer this weekend as the high temp right now looks like we're going to reach 90 degrees. Perfect weather for a Hog Roast in Roanoke Alabama, don't ya think? Come see us! Slow Food Festival May 9th If you have missed coming out to the farm for our Supper Clubs come out to Roanoke Alabama Saturday May 9th for our Slow Food Festival! We'll have a Hog Roast, lots of great music, check out the Lexicon of Sustainability (an amazing photo collage exhibit) local vendors and tastings, and an evening screening of the film "Eating Alabama" all held in the recently refurbished Main Street Theater. Check out the Facebook page for tickets and details (or email us back) and COME SEE US we're going to have a great time!
Weekly Recipe: Broccoli Stir Fry
One of our favorite lunch or dinner meals, you can put just about any combo of Veggies, Meat, Tofu, etc., in there! This Stir Fry with Broccoli, Tofu and Shiitake Mushrooms is a crowd pleaser every time we make it here on the Farm.
1. Drain and cut Tofu into cubes, set aside.
2. Wash, trim and chop veggies: Broccoli (including stalks, peel if necessary); Shiitake Mushrooms (remove stems); Onions.
3. Stir fry Tofu in 4 Tablespoons oil, fry longer for crispy texture, quickly for softer texture. Remove from wok or skillet. 4. Heat 2 Tablespoons oil in a wok or skillet, stir fry veggies over medium-high heat until just tender-crisp.
5. Add Tofu and seasonings back to Vegetables in wok and stir fry until combined and heated through. For seasonings we recommend: 1T Soy Sauce; 1T Fish Sauce; 2T Sweet Chili Sauce; Garlic Powder and Ginger Powder to taste (or fresh if you have them); 1T Rice Wine Vinegar. Have some Garlic Chili Sauce on the side for those who like some spice!
6. Serve with prepared rice or noodles.
Moore Farms City Chicks
If you have ever thought about being a City Chicken owner we are ready and willing to enable your aspirations! Our Moore Farms City Chicks program set up a dozen Atlanta families with their very own backyard flock "starter kit" last year. Our first batch has hatched and we'll start placing the Chicks as early as the first week of May. Two more incubators will hatch more Chicks over the next two weeks and continually through the Summer. Check out the details here and put in your reservation for your Chicks!
