Our Orders This Week

Gorgeous and delicious $20 Farmer Pick Box this week!
|
Alright just a wonderful week for harvests and deliveries as the rain has finally come to a slow drippy stop. Sun is out this afternoon and forecast promises several days of dry so all of us who live close to the land are thrilled! No problems, substitutions or other issues to report, so hopefully we got everything in your box as ordered. Lots of great goodies being reported for next week so stay tuned when we open back up again tomorrow! Slow Food Festival May 9th If you have missed coming out to the farm for our Supper Clubs come out to Roanoke Alabama Saturday May 9th for our Slow Food Festival! Just 90 minutes from Atlanta, we'll have a Hog Roast, lots of great music, check out the Lexicon of Sustainability (an amazing photo collage exhibit) local vendors and tastings, and an evening screening of the film "Eating Alabama". This will be the first event to be held in the recently refurbished Main Street Theater. Check out the Facebook page for tickets and details and COME SEE US we're going to have a great time!

Alabama Sunset (colors are NOT enhanced!)
|
Many thanks to our farm friend Jackie Carr for these terrific shots: we enjoyed a beautiful sunset earlier in the week and she recorded it for us.
|
Jackie's Mama Hen is due to hatch her eggs soon, too!
|
Also Jackie has an amazing critter saga going on at her place. One of her Barn Cats decided the cozy Chicken House was the perfect place to have her three kittens. She settled in right next to a Mama Hen who is brooding a clutch of eggs. The Hen is still sitting but she apparently doesn't mind kitten-sitting for the Cat when she goes off on her jaunts: the kittens snuggle right up under her! Jackie takes in rescue Chickens from the evil confinement broiler houses around us and is one of our egg producers. Check out more on her Facebook page The Blind Lemon James Home for Wayward Chickens. : )
Weekly Recipe

Peel those Broccoli stems for soup or salads!
|
Broccoli Cheddar Soup One of Will's favorites and he is a soup fiend! This is the recipe featured in our Soup & Salad Box this week, too. The Wright Dairy Cheese makes the fresh Spring Broccoli taste wonderful, we hope you try it!
Wash, trim and chop Broccoli, peel and use the stems, too. In a soup pot saute Broccoli with 2T Olive Oil, season with salt and pepper until just tender. Add 2 cups Chicken or Vegetable Broth, cover and cook for 15-20 minutes on medium heat (simmer). Turn off heat and add 1 cup Cream of Milk and ½ cup grated Red Hill Cheddar Cheese. Using an immersion blender puree the soup until desired consistency (some like it very smooth others like a little chunky). If you don't have an immersion blender a food processor or blender will do but put an immersion blender on your wish list they are great! ; )
Moore Farms City Chicks
If you have ever thought about being a City Chicken owner we are ready and willing to enable your aspirations! The first batch hatched this weekend and we'll start placing the Chicks as early as the first week of May. Check out the details here and put in your reservation for your Chicks!
