Moore Farms
Our Great Orders This Week!
Our beauty $20 Farmer Pick box this week.
It's so nice to have a lovely weather week and a lovely order week all at the same time! We can report no weirdness in harvests or deliveries so everyone should find everything in their boxes pretty much as expected (yay!). Sometimes it feels like we have streaks of delivery errors so maybe we're done with that for the time being. We did have one farm  report that was very unsettling: Partin Place Farm has suffered the loss of about 24 Laying Hens due to a beastly Bobcat! They actually caught an image of the big adult cat inside their Henyard with a critter cam, so scary!! A couple of us helped out with taking the rest of their survivors
Our batch of Newbie"Refugee" Hens hanging out in the transition house. They will join the rest of our flock tomorrow.
back to our farms. The farm is still deciding whether or not to re-flock later in the year, this is a very upsetting event to have to deal with! On the same note we had a large male Racoon waddling his way up to our own Farmyard the other day, we had to stop him in his tracks. Racoons can be terrible predators in a Henhouse, two years ago we lost 18 chicks to one before we caught it! It's that time of year and these are the things we deal with: fending off wild creatures who want to make a tasty meal of our beautiful happy hens (and your Egg Producers).

Winter Investment Incentive
Just a few more days for our seasonal special offer for new and renewing Online Market Investors is a nice big bonus this time: we'll add $20 to your spending credit for the Basic Investment Program, $40 for Supporting level, $100 for Sustaining and $200 for Foundation. That's a SWEET deal! Our Winter Incentive will run through January 31st. Happy New Year!

Weekly Recipe
Kale and
Potato Soup
A classic Soup for chilly January days, our recipe includes a little bit of Rutabaga and White Sweet Potato! This was the featured Soup in this week's Soup & Salad Box.

1. Wash, trim and dice Potatoes, Rutabaga and White Sweet Potato. (No need to peel organically grown roots unless you don't like the texture.)

2. Heat 4T Olive Oil in a soup pot, add roots and season with salt/pepper. Cook for 5-10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Wash, trim and chop Kale.

4. When roots are just getting a little tender add 4-6 cups of liquid (we use ½ water and ½ Chicken Broth). Simmer for 30 minutes, add Kale and cook for another 10 minutes.

To finish Soup: We like this as a pureed soup so we use an immersion blender right in the soup pot to blend until desired consistency (you can add more water/broth/cream if needed to thin). If you like a chunkier soup you can stir briskly or use a potato masher until you reach the desired chunkiness.

Check for seasoning and add salt and pepper if needed before serving.

School Visit
Laurie will be visiting the students at The Clifton School this Friday! They have had a Soup project going on and will share their experiences learning about new vegetables from our farmers and making soup with them.

The Clifton School has been working with Moore Farms and Friends on a grant project where we supply seasonal fruits and vegetables for the students to learn about, prepare and eat. Cool, huh? We're so glad to be able to join them in the classroom and talk about what we do on the farm!
