Moore Farms
Our Orders This Week!
We have18 new Baby Chicks and more eggs in the incubator!
OK so we're slowly starting to get back into a somewhat "normal" groove around here at Moore Farms! We had a batch
of Chicks hatch this week and the new little Piggies are starting to get sweet so we can scratch them and feed them by hand. Since we never had kids of our own the 3am wake-up calls from Will's mom are a bit of a shock to the system but even that aspect is getting to be part of our routine!
Our lovely $20 Farmer Pick box this week.
All went great for orders, the only thing was the much-anticipated Pink Eyed Peas from Riverview Farms didn't happen due to their pickers not arriving in time to get them together for us. Fortunately our good Friends at Rise and Shine Farm had Crowder Peas so we had a very similar item for replacement. Crowder Peas have a richer, nuttier flavor but can be used exactly the same way you would Black Eyed Peas (or Pink Eyed Peas!). We hope to get some of those good Pink Eyes before they are gone. If you ordered one of the Dinner Packages this week the Recipes are posted on the Newsletters and Recipes archive on our website. Not sure what to do with the Spaghetti Squash in your box? Check out our easy Baked Spaghetti Squash Recipe in the archive, it is truly delicious. Manga!

Weekly Recipe
Fresh Pea Salad Pink Eyed Peas
Whether you have Pink Eyed Peas or another type of fresh Pea, they do not have to be cooked for hours with Pork Fat (though that's good, too!). This week's recipe is one we have adapted from our wonderful friends at Gerson's Garden, our local vegetarian wine bar and refuge in Roanoke, Alabama. : )

1. Rinse 1 pint (1/2 pound) fresh Peas and simmer with just enough water to cover for 10 minutes (should be tender but not mushy). Drain and chill.

2. Just before serving chop 1 Tomato, 1/2 Onion, 1 Avocado and fresh Basil (or other fresh herbs).

3. Mix together Peas and prepared veggies, toss with 1T Olive Oil and 2T Lime Juice, season with salt and pepper. Serve with Corn Chips, Pita or Salad Greens.
