Moore Farms
Our Orders This Week!
Our lovely $20 farmer Pick still life this week!
OK so first off, our Turner Pickup Locations are trending up this week, yay! We still need a lot more folks to get on board: CNN had ten orders (our minimum for a site) and Techwood just eight. Help us to ensure continued deliveries, spread the word if you love us at Turner or know someone who works at these locations!

So everything went really well for orders, we did have fewer Peaches than expected but more Nectarines and Apples so the Farmers Pick boxes got a lovely combo of some or all of these tree fruits from Beech Creek Orchards!

We had a big long day Thursday as Will was on the road making the deliveries and Laurie was picking up the new
Pigs of all ages love to snuggle down into fluffy straw.
Piggies for the farm. These beauties are about 7 weeks old  and raised by one of our local farmers. They are a cross of Duroc and Devon Black and are super cute! Two boys and two girls, they had an exciting day traveling about 25 miles but settled in just fine. We usually have Spring pigs but with all of the excitement surrounding Will's mom's accident in March this year
we had to wait awhile. Virginia moved in with us this weekend and we're hoping that a change of pace from the assisted living center will help in her recovery from a recent fall. Thanks so much for all the well-wishes and prayers, we really appreciate it!
Their big floppy ears make for a funny profile!

Weekly Recipes
Our Recipe of the Week is for our own
PEAR RELISH
A Southern tradition, this does not have to be preserved by canning: you can make a quick batch to keep in the fridge for up to a month or even freeze it. Terrific with meats or vegetables, it's a tasty way to brighten up many dishes. Think of it as a Southern Fruit Salsa.
It's a traditional condiment for Pork Chops or Sausage.

1.   Wash, trim and peel 4-5 Kieffer Pears, chop into 1/4" dice or grate on a large grater.
2.   Wash, trim and finely chop 1 Sweet Pepper. For a spicier version add a chopped Jalapeno Pepper or Red Pepper Flakes to taste.
3.   Trim and finely chop 1 small Onion.

Combine prepared Pears, Pepper and Onion in a saucepot. Add 4 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar, 1 Tablespoon Sugar, 1/2 Tablespoon Salt and freshly ground Pepper. Cook over medium heat for 20 - 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep Pear Relish in a sealed container in the fridge, freeze or preserve in canning jars with a hot water bath.

PEAR PIE
We found this lovely blog about Kieffer Pears and a wonderful Pear Pie Recipe. Have not had time to make it yet but it reads like a winner! The blog gives a great personal history of these yummy fruits and details how special they are. We hope they become a favorite seasonal fruit of your family, too!
