Moore Farms
Our Orders This Week!
Our yummy collection of produce for the $20 box this week.
This was just a terrific week of our farmer's Good Food! All went very well with harvest reports, picking, packing and deliveries. The first boxes of Vidalia Onions turned out to be Jumbos! We usually don't see these as they are premium but we sure got them this week: some were as big as a softball or larger! We ended up putting the largest ones in for our $40 Farmer Pick boxes instead of sending two smaller ones. I think we're going to have to grill some of these this weekend!

Farm Baby Pictures!
The buckling looks out from behind mama.
You know it's Spring when we can't keep up with all of the Farm Baby arrivals. Baby Blue Eyes had her twins Tuesday night, a boy and a girl. Here they are in case you missed our Facebook postings (check out our Facebook page to Like us and Review us!).  We'll have their Baby Goat Name Vote when we open the Online Market for orders this week. To give you some inspiration: mama is a Nigerian Dwarf which usually have blue eyes (hence her name); this is her first kidding for us though she probably kidded once before we got her; the Papa Goat is named Diego; the boy is black with tan and white markings (including a tan butt!); the girl is almost all black with a white nose, ears and a spot on her head (OK also a little white on her butt!). The boy has brown eyes and the girl has blue eyes. They were born Tuesday May 20th during the night on a half-moon. Send us your name nominations and we'll vote in June!
The little doeling executing a Baby Goat Yoga stretch!
Another batch of Baby Chicks hatched this weekend, too. We had seven that were from the Silkie section and only two of those exhibited Silkie characteristics. This is one of them, she has feathers on her legs and an extra toe on her feet as well as black skin and eyes. The hatch included our first Buff Orpington chicks, too. Getting another batch going today!

OK we now have the names for Mama Josephine's two bucklings! We asked our mothers to name them since the twin boys were born on Mother's Day weekend. They came up with two great names: Will's mom Virginia chose "Bubba" for the pro golfer Bubba Watson (probably not very many goats named after him!) and Laurie's mom Linda chose "Beau" as a shortened version of Josphine Bonaparte's first husband's last name. These guys are almost identical: Beau has a larger white spot on his head and Bubba is a little smaller than his brother.
Bubba and Beau chilling in the farmyard after breakfast. They're cool.

Pickup Location Additions, Changes & Tweaks
A big welcome to our newest cool
Hodge Podge Coffee Shop in East Atlanta Village! Deliveries started this week to this funky cool shop. They pick up the EAV site since our long-time host ABS Studio is moving to Midtown. Many thanks to Members Jaklin Mofardin and Jenni Shepherd for making EAV site suggestions. Cheers and welcome to Hodge Podge Coffee Shop!

Our next set of NEW Pickup Locations will start deliveries the first week of June. Both of The Clifton School sites (Clairmont and Clifton) are terrific additions for our Online Market program. A big welcome to The Clifton School families and the fine folks at the school who got our program going!

A few changes and tweaks starting next week for these sites:
Atlanta Community Food Bank - official delivery time will now be Noon on Wednesdays. Welcome again to this fantastic new site, you all are wonderful!
All Saint's Episcopal - Pickups will move up a bit to Noon (from 11:30) starting next week.
Atlanta Fresh Norcross site: starting next week deliveries will be moved to Thursdays from 2pm - 6pm.
Tucker Mother Nature's Market - starting next week deliveries will be from 2:00pm - 6:30pm.

Heads-up, ya'll! The following Pickup Locations have been consistently weak and we really have to pump them up! We need a minimum of only ten orders per week to maintain a Pickup Location and cover delivery costs. Please help us spread the word! If you know anyone who would be interested in our Online Market program we need more folks to order for these sites:
  • TURNER (both CNN and Techwood locations). We know we have local/organic fans at Turner, we need to get you all going over there! We have a referral program running for the month of May so check it out and spread the word.
  • NORCROSS We get requests for your neck of the woods all the time!
  • SMYRNA This terrific site also has freshly baked bread  (only when available) for our Members when they pick up!
  • MARIETTA SQUARE Our host has all kinds of wonderful local products, help support this local store!
  • TUCKER Another wonderful neighborhood pickup spot, this site has been struggling for a while. We don't give up easily but we need more folks to patronize this delivery location!
  • EMORY VILLAGE Slice & Pint - What a great place to pick up your box! A later alternative for Emory area folks and you can get a yummy lunch or dinner, too.
From the Farmers
We are very proud to bring our farm harvests to your family's table and we always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for supporting your local food system!

Weekly Recipe
Vidalia Onion Quiche
The ingredients in our Brunch Package are perfect for this breakfast, lunch or light dinner dish.

Note: We use the roll-out type of pie crusts found in the refrigerator section of the grocery store for their convenience (one of the few prepared food items we buy!). The quality is very good and, well, we have never been big pastry chefs!

1. Bring refrigerated pie crust to room temperature and place in a pie plate (or make your own crust). Pre-bake for 5-10 minutes at 350 degrees to set the crust, allow to cool. Reset oven temperature to 350 degrees.

2. Trim and slice 1 medium Vidalia Onion, you will need 1.5 cups. Prepare other vegetables of your choice, we included 1/2 of a Bell Pepper, too. Saute Onion (with other veggies if you like) in a large skillet with 2T Olive Oil or Butter until browned. Set aside.

3. Grate or crumble 1/4 pound cheese. The Red Hill Cheddar in our Brunch Package is great or use another cheese of your choice (or a mixture).

4. Beat together 6 Eggs and 1 cup Heavy Cream or Milk (Cream is best!). Season Egg mixture with salt and pepper.

To assemble Quiche: Sprinkle half of the Cheese in the bottom of the prepared pie crust. Top with all of the Onions then pour Egg mixture over all (be sure to leave 1/2" space at the top of the crust otherwise it will overflow). Place Quiche on a baking sheet to prevent a horrible mess if it does overflow! Bake in a 325 degree oven for 30 minutes. Sprinkle remaining Cheese on top of the Quiche and continue baking for another 15-20 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a knife in the center and it comes out clean (not goopy). Also the Quiche's center will be set, not jiggly. Allow to rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving hot or serve at room temperature.

This makes a wonderful breakfast, lunch or dinner. We enjoy them frequently on the farm since they can be made ahead, are easy and so versatile. Once you get the hang of making Quiches they will surely become favorites or yours, too!
