Our delicious and nutritious $20 Farmers Pick box this week!
We just love it when everything goes great for our weekly orders, especially after all the bizarre-o weather we have all dealt with in the last several weeks. All of the farm harvests were beautiful and came in right on time and just as expected. We are all still dealing with too-wet soil conditions as Spring gets revved up, doing the best we can to continue planting for regularly scheduled farm forecasts. That's the thing about what we do: we just never know what Mother Nature is going to throw at us! The first of the Organic Strawberries from Florida arrived this week just beautiful and sweet (we don't do "styrofoam" fruit!). Because they have not been treated with harmful fungicides they are delicate so we encourage you to enjoy these soon: they simply will not wait for a week in the fridge the way Conventionally Grown Strawberries do. Don't be intimidated by the Red Cabbage in boxes this week! It is easy to add to salads (grated or finely chopped) or prepare it any way you would Green Cabbage. It has the added benefits of extra vitamins A & C so eat it, it's good for you! : ) For more info: What Are the Health Benefits of Red Cabbage Vs. Green Cabbage?

Mama Goat Frida's Spring Kid
One of our Order Packers Kathy holding Frida's Baby Goat.
SO if you haven't been following our Facebook posts about our Spring Kidding so far this year we had some bad news late last week. The twin Kid that Mama Goat Frida rejected passed away just 6 days after he was born. It seems she probably knew there was something wrong with the smaller of the two bucklings when she would not take care of him. We took the little guy in and he seemed to be doing just fine but found him at 3:30 in the morning when it was time for his bottle feeding. The problem likely was a common intestinal parasite that is not apparent (at least to us) and nothing could have been done about it. It was a sad day at Moore Farms but we know that Mother Nature has her plan and we just have to follow it! Frida's other buckling is doing great, a big bouncing boy who has markings almost identical to hers (and his brother Santiago's). So we need a name for him! We have a few that were sent in last week and we'll take some more Name Nominations before we open the Member Voting to choose the new Baby Goat Name. Email us and tell us what you think we should call him! A few facts to help:
Mama and Dad Goats are named Frida and Diego after the Mexican artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera.
He was born on a Friday, the same day as his brother.
He is mostly black with brown and white markings including a back leg that is all white!
He and the rest of our Goat Herd live here at Moore Farms to eat Kudzu, brambles and other nuisance weeds.
Freedom Farmers Market
at The Carter Center
The first Freedom Farmers Market at The Carter Center was a fantastic success! Crowds of folks pretty much sold out every vendor. Here is Tracy Stuckrath, Will Moore and Lauren Janis as we open for business.
We are so excited and proud to announce our new weekly Farmers' Market! We have been working for the past several
months with The Carter Center, Woodland Gardens and Riverview Farms to form the Freedom Farmers' Market at The Carter Center. We will be there every Saturday from 9am - 1pm with a variety of products from Moore Farms and Friends. (Not everything but a nice selection!)
It's such a great opportunity for us to meet our Members: we visited with many long-time Members and lots of old friends for the first Market! Be sure to stop by the Market Information Booth and sign up for the Georgia Organics-sponsored "My Market" program to get $5 in spendable Market Tokens! Check out the website for Market info and be sure to sign up for email announcements:
We are very proud to bring our farm harvests to your family's table and we always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for supporting your local food system!

More Goat Pics
Mama Goat Frida with her cutie little buckling: send us your suggestions for his name and all of our Members will vote! The rest of the Farmyard animals all hanging out with the Baby Goat.
Ducks, Goat and Chickens all range together in about one acre of pasture and woods. This week's farm projects include the expansion of their range to 3 acres: enough to enclose the only section on our 60-acre farm that is afflicted with the dreaded Kudzu!
Weekly Recipe
Sweet Potato Skins
A fun and tasty alternative for a snack or side dish, we always make these for international WWOOF farm interns because they are so different! (www.wwoofusa.org)
1. Wash Sweet Potatoes well, give them a good scrub. Slice into long quartered wedges.
2. Place cut side up on a parchment or foil lined baking sheet and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Remove from oven and allow to cool. They will look dry, it's OK.
3. Wash, chop and saute toppings in a small amount of olive oil: we like Bacon, Onions and Sweet Peppers but you can try other vegetables, too. Season with salt and pepper.
4. Slice off the top 1/2 of the cooked Sweet Potato wedges and reserve for another dish (soup, sweet potato pancakes, etc.). You still want enough Sweet Potato left with the skin to make it worthwhile but only about 1/4 to 1/3 inch thick.
5. Spread a layer of the sauteed veggies/meats onto skins and sprinkle with grated cheese (like the Wright Dairy Red Hill Cheddar). Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes or until browned. Serve with Atlanta Fresh Plain Greek Yogurt instead of Sour Cream, or their Classic Ranch Dressing, yum!
