Moore Farms
Terrific Order Week
Another beautiful and delicious $20 Farmer Pick order for this week!
It was so nice to have a plain-old "normal" week after so much excitement in the last month. No weirdness at all with farm harvests and deliveries, all went just as planned, yay! We want to extend a BIG welcome to our newest Members from Turner Broadcasting to our Online Market! We are super excited to offer weekly deliveries to the Turner Athletic Clubs at both CNN Center and Techwood Drive
locations. We hope you love what we do as much as we do!

Farm Baby Arrivals
This is the little guy Laurie is caring for.
If you didn't see our Facebook posts this weekend, we got an early delivery from Mama Goat Frida: she had twins on Friday! That's two years in a row now Frida has had her kids on a Friday. The Baby Goat in the picture is currently being mama'd by Laurie, Miss Frida decided she only needed one Baby Goat. She looked after him for the first few days but gradually started pushing him away and only cared for the larger of the two. Bottles of goat milk every six hours are a new addition to our regular farm chores now! He is very sweet and follows the dogs around, we have started calling him our "Goat Puppy"!

Baby Goat Name Nominations
The larger baby looks like it's mama and brother born last year, Santiago.
It has become a tradition now at Moore Farms for our Members to submit Name Nominations and we have a vote for our new Baby Goat's names. We'll vote in two weeks so email us your ideas! Here are their details:

Mama's name is Frida and Father's name is Diego (after the Mexican artists).

Twin Baby Boys, the larger one was born first and is the one Frida is keeping, the smaller one was born second and Laurie gets to be his mama!

They are mostly black with some white and brown patches (and both  adorable, of course!)

More Moore Farms Babies!

The chicks were two days old when we brought them home.

We have been started hatching more of our own Eggs over the last couple of years but Laurie couldn't resist the Silver Laced

Our first batch of Eggs for 2014 went into the incubator this weekend!

Wyandotte chicks at the local feed store. We have a few hens of this pretty breed already and since the 20 chicks are a "straight run"  we'll have some roosters, too. This year we plan to start hatching chicks to sell! We'll have Buff Orpingtons, Plymouth Barred Rocks, Speckled Sussex, Silver Laced Wyandottes and our own Moore Farms Mix from our variety of hens and roosters. We should have the first chicks ready soon for folks who want to have their own backyard birds!

From the Farmers
We are very proud to bring our farm harvests to your family's table and we always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for supporting your local food system!

Weekly Recipe
Stuffed Cabbage
One of our favorite recipes for cooler weather, our version has a creamy bechamel sauce instead of tomatoes. We also make it with Collard leaves, too.

~ 1 head of Cabbage, larger leaves removed (or use Collards with the stem removed)

~ 3-4 Carrots washed, trimmed and finely chopped

~ 1/4 pound Shiitake Mushrooms, stems removed and chopped

~ 2 cups prepared rice

~ 1 pound cooked ground Pork. Beef or Lamb

Wash, trim and blanch Cabbage/Collard leaves in boiling salted water. Remove with tongs and plunge in cold water to cool. Stack on work surface and prepare filling.

Filling: Saute chopped Carrots and Mushrooms (with chopped Onion and Garlic to your taste) in 2T olive oil, season with salt and pepper. Combine with rice and ground meat.

Spread filling along Cabbage leaves, roll up and place in buttered/oiled baking dish. Continue until dish is full, you can squeeze them in.

Bechamel Sauce: Make a roux in a saucepan with 4T butter and 4T flour. Stir in 1.5 - 2 cups milk, salt and pepper, nutmeg to season. Stir to combine and cook until thickened, pour over prepared Cabbage Rolls.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30-40 minutes or until browned and bubbly.
