Moore Farms
Our Orders This Week!
Our $20 Farmers Pick box this week, everything waited patiently
in our walk-in until the Winter Snowstorm cleared!

Well we certainly got more than we ever expected out of this last cold blast! We are finally able to get back out on the road to make deliveries to all Pickup Locations on Friday January 31st. The terrible Winter Snowstorm of 2014 will go down on the books as one we'll not soon forget and hopefully this isn't a sign of things to come. The good news is all of our farmer's Good Food was safe and sound just waiting for Mother Nature to allow us to get it to our Members! Ironically we did not have any problems with harvests this week, the Kale we thought would be Red Russian turned out to be Tuscan instead but otherwise all went well everywhere else. We had one glitch with our delivery from Wright Dairy: their workers were not able to get in to the farm so our Grated Parmesan was not ready for us this week. We will replace that from the Soup & Salad Box orders and apologies, you will need to get some grated cheese for the soup recipe. We hope all of our Members had an uneventful and boring few days, the best any of us could expect under the circumstances. Times like this remind us of how important patience and perseverance are for all of us!
Sunrise at Moore Farms Wednesday January 29th.
Josephine and her kid Niblet stayed in one of the shelters.
Everyone pretty much stayed in their houses, Chickens don't
seem to like snow very much.

From the Farmers
We are very proud to bring our farm harvests to your family's table and we always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for supporting your local food system!

Weekly Recipe
Our Recipe of the Week is for our own Farmhouse Cabbage
Sweet and Sour Cabbage one of the yummy side dishes for our Dinner Packages!

Go ahead and cook the whole head of Cabbage, it makes great leftovers or add it to a salad or use it to start a pot of vegetable soup!

Wash, trim and chop Cabbage. We like to cut it into 1/4" strips but any size/shape you like is fine.

Trim and chop 1 Onion (optional).

Heat 2T Olive Oil in a large skillet or cooking pot. Add Cabbage and Onion, season with salt and pepper. Stir-fry over medium high heat until Cabbage starts to wilt.

Add 2T Red Wine or Apple Cider Vinegar, 2T Chicken or Vegetable Broth and 1T Sugar or Honey. Lower heat and cover, simmer for 15-20 minutes. No need to overcook, Cabbage should have a nice fresh texture and not be mushy!

Fresh Cabbage is delicious without a lot of extra seasonings but here are some we like if you want to try them:  Fennel Seeds (saute in oil before adding Cabbage); Hot Pepper Flakes; Garlic/Ginger/Soy Sauce; Paprika & Cumin.
