Moore Farms
Our Orders This Week
Our $20 Farmers Pick Order this week.
All right our Order Report this week is pretty good, we want to point out that the first Summer Apple variety from Beech Creek Farms is called "Pristine" and the reason why you will not find it in grocery stores is because they bruise so easily! Don't be alarmed if you have a few bumps on your Apples, it's just about impossible not to bruise these tender early Apples. They are really tasty and you don't even need to trim off bruised areas, just eat and enjoy! Also the Mini Cantaloupe were way more Mini than we thought they would be! Beech Creek described them as softball-sized when many were more like baseball-size. Because of this we added a Baby Watermelon to the Fruit Only Boxes this week! The Mini 'Loupes are supposed to be very small, it's a new variety in the popular individual-size fruit offerings. Our Moore Farms Basil Mix this week is Green and Purple or a mix of the two. Manga!
OK we have determined that this is absolutely the wettest early Summer we have experienced since we started growing here on the farm 14 years ago! Every old-timer we talk to about it agrees, they can't remember anything like this. We also have never had a lightening strike directly on the farm but in the last three weeks we  have had two storms disable our telephones, computer modem, TV satellite and TV cables. Hopefully this is all just wild errant weather patterns and not a sign of things to come. . . I almost lost one of my wellies in the goat yard: it got stuck in 4" of sticky mud! We can't count the number of times we have dumped an overflowing rain gauge (it holds 5"). The only creatures on the farm who love the wet are the Ducks, they are thrilled! Geez.
Come on out for our favorite local food event of the year! The Attack of the Killer Tomatoes Festival is held at JCT Kitchen, benefits Georgia Organics and is one deliciously fun day! Check it out and see you there, Laurie is even threatening to wear her Tomato costume!

Weekly Recipe
One of Will's staple Summer Salads is the cool, refreshing, crunchy and tasty
Tomato Cucumber Salad

Our twist on it is with fresh Basil!
     1. Wash, trim, core and chop 2-3 Tomatoes, preferably at least two colors.
     2. Trim, peel and chop 1/2 of each Red Onion and Vidalia Onion.
     3. Wash, trim and chop 1 medium Cucumber.
     4. Wash and chop 2-4 Tablespoons fresh Basil.
     5. Combine all in a bowl and dress with 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil, 1 Tablespoon Apple Cider (or other favorite) Vinegar, salt and pepper to taste.

Allow to marinate and chill in the fridge for 20-30 minutes before serving.
