Moore Farms
Our Orders for This Week
Our beautiful $20 Farmers Pick box this week.
Well things had been going just fine for most of the year so far so it figures we would run out of luck sometime! Our Lettuce this week was a total no-show from the farmer with no heads-up or explanation. Will scrambled to get some extra items from a couple of our other growers to make substitutions for Farmer's Pick orders. He was able to get some more Cucumbers, Radishes and Vidalia Onions but not enough of any one thing to make a simple swap! So $20 orders got Radishes and  Cucumber and $30/$40 boxes got Radishes and Vidalia Onion instead of the Lettuce. Custom Choice Lettuce orders will be noted and we'll automatically replace or credit your next order. So sorry for the disappointment, we all work very hard to fulfill our Weekly "Forecasts" but well, sometimes stuff happens! Other than that everything was great this week with some really beautiful and colorful boxes going out to our Members!

A couple of notes on the items this week: the New Potatoes are freshly dug not cured for storage, so they should go in the fridge with everything else until you are ready to use them. If you missed our Weekly Newsletter a couple of weeks ago with the Kohlrabi info and recipes here is the link to our Archives.

Summer Schedule
Just a heads-up, we only take two weeks off all year
and one is for July 4th! We will have deliveries for the last week of June (26th - 28th) then the next deliveries will be July 10th - 12th.

Baby Chick Update
Baby Chicks pic taken last week on 06/13/2013.
The second successful batch of incubator eggs are all out and about now! We had 19 out of 24 chicks which is a pretty good result. They are just one week old now and eating like crazy! Today they had their first field trip outside to run around in the clover and grass, chasing flies and learning about the big world around them.
Baby Chicks pic 06/19/2013 movin' on up to the Big Time!
Update to the Update: Baby Chicks moved outside this week for regular daytime outings. . .they are mixing and mingling with the Big Chickens and everyone is getting along just fine! Compare these two photos to see how much they have grown and "feathered out" in just five days! Plus they have a really funny grown-up-chicken "cool" attitude as they strut around the yard, they know everything about everything now!

Weekly Recipes
Our Recipes this Week are for our Veggie on the Grill Dinner Package

Box includes: Acorn Squash, Green Beans, Vidalia Onion, Mixed Roots, Florence Fennel, Cabbage

Grilled Acorn Squash Rings

Cut Acorn Squash into 1" slices. It is not necessary to peel the Squash, the peel is actually edible and delicious! Cut seeds out of cavity, drizzle with Olive Oil just to coat and season with salt and pepper. We also like to add other spices like Cumin, Paprika, Curry Powder, etc. Grill Acorn Squash rings for 3-4 minutes per side or until just a little tender, place on serving platter and cover. They will steam a little to finish cooking, these can be served hot or room temperature.

Tin Foil Green Beans

Wash, trim and toss whole Green Beans in just enough Olive Oil to coat, season with salt and pepper. Wrap in tin foil (individual serving foil  packets are cool!) and grill for 7-10 minutes on medium high heat. Allow to rest before serving. (Tip: add some of Vidalia Onion slices for more flavor!)

Grilled Roasted Roots

Our classic and favorite veggie dish! Wash, trim and chop a variety of Roots. We sent: Carrots; Turnips; Beets; Sweet Potatoes. Toss with just enough Olive Oil to coat, season with salt and pepper, wrap in tin foil and grill for 15-20 minutes on medium high heat. Turn once during cooking for best results and allow to rest before opening foil and serving.

Cabbage Slaw

w/ Fennel

Wash, trim and chop Cabbage, Fennel and Vidalia Onion very finely. Prepare dressing: mix together 1/4 cup Mayonnaise or Plain Yogurt, salt, pepper, 1 Tablespoon Honey or Sugar, 2 Tablespoons Apple Cider Vinegar. Other seasonings to try: Curry Powder; Celery Seeds; Red Pepper Flakes; Cumin; fresh chopped Herbs. Mix together slaw veggies and dressing, chill well before serving.
