Lovely Orders This Week
Our $20 Farmers Pick box for this week's deliveries
Just a really pretty and yummy selection going out this week to our Members. Remember the Swiss Chard is great for salads, too, we enjoy it raw as much as sauteed or in omelets, quiches, etc., deelish!
Will was looking very Carrot-y this week with his matching orange t-shirt! We're pulling the last of the Spring Carrots out of the field now but more are coming up for Summer harvest. Red, White and Blue Potatoes, Beans and Turnips are all in the new field sections, looking beautiful with a little reprieve from the recent rains. We only had 1/2" this past weekend so that's fine, gives the soil a chance to recover from the 5.5" the previous two weekends! Moore Farms animal antics: Josephine the Goat got herself into a bit of trouble on Monday. She managed to get into the Chicken House and while trying to sneak a snack got her head stuck in the Chicken Feeder! She ran around the yard, Chickens flying around everywhere, complete pandemonium. I was able to get the bucket off of her head easily and I hope she learned her lesson! With any luck Josephine will have her Baby Goat (or Goats) by Farm Day.
Josephine the Goat looking a little "sheepish"!
Come See Us For Our
Our new Baby Goat is bouncing around the Farm Yard like a little dude. SO we don't have a name for him yet. We're taking Member suggestions and we'll vote for his new name on Farm Day! Send us an email and tell us what you think we should name him. Here are some details about the little guy to help inspire you:
  • He was born on Friday May 3rd.His Mother is Frida and his Father is Diego (yes, after the artists!).
  • He has chocolate brown markings on his face and legs.
  • He is very independent: lots of the time his mother calls for him to come to her and he just keeps on sleeping!
  • He wags his tail a lot.
  • He likes people and he gets lots of snuggles.
You can Register even when the Online Market is closed. Be sure to tell us how many kids and their ages in the Comments, everyone 12 and under is free!

Weekly Recipe
Our Recipe of the Week is for our Big Salad Box

Broccoli Salad
Box includes: Red Hill Cheddar Cheese, Broccoli, Vidalia Onion, English Peas, Baby Carrots, Oranges and Strawberries
This is a chopped Salad and is very fresh and satisfying on a warm Spring day!

Wash, trim and chop Broccoli, Vidalia Onion and Baby Carrots into small (1/4") chunks. Mix in shelled English Peas.

Prepare Salad Dressing: mix together 1/4 cup Olive Oil, 1/8 cup Vinegar (we like White Balsamic or Apple Cider), 2 T Honey,
1 T Mustard (Dijon or Grainy are good), salt, pepper.  *Add some Orange Zest if you like!

Toss prepared Vegetables with enough Dressing to coat and refrigerate, reserve the remaining dressing. This will "marinate" the vegetables while the rest of the Salad is prepared.

Wash, trim and slice Strawberries. Cut off Orange peel and segment the fruit or chop into bite-sized chunks.

Grate Red Hill Cheddar Cheese.

To assemble Salad: Mix together the marinated Vegetables with the prepared fruits and grated cheese. Drizzle with a little more dressing and serve.

Great additions are chopped Chicken, Bacon or Deli Ham.
