Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Alrighy-then a very nice week altogether with just a little ka-fluey regarding Greens and Turnips: we only had enough Purple Top Turnips for Custom Choice Orders so for Farmers Pick Orders we replaced them with Butternut Squash. For the Farmers Pick Baby Mixed Greens we predicted, we had a lot more Spinach and Kale so some folks got Spinach, some got Kale and some got Mixed Greens. They all can pretty much can be used the same way, either raw for salads or gently cooked (Greens are great in Quiche or Omelet!). A note on the Slicing Tomatoes, the item title got "turned on" on the website as Florida Tomatoes but that was a typo and the description correctly identified them as coming from Beech Creek Farms in Buchanan GA. We are thrilled to announce these new items from The Tasteful Garden and Saxon Grist Mill, check them out for your next order if you missed them this week!

Made with great care by The Tasteful Garden with their own fresh Heirloom tomatoes, peppers and herbs. This is a Pico de gallo type of fresh salsa with cilantro, quickly chopped and frozen immediately to hold the flavors until you receive it. Choose hot or medium. Ingredients: Fresh Heirloom tomatoes, sweet Vidalia onions, jalapeno, habanero, & sweet peppers, fresh cilantro, fresh lime juice, extra virgin olive oil, & kosher salt. 16 oz. vacuum sealed package.

Just in time for Thanksgiving Cornbread Dressing! The Saxon family from Perkins GA grow their own corn seed, so no GMOs or pesticides! To distinguish their grits and cornmeal and develop a rich corn flavor, Saxon Grist Mill uses a blend of white and yellow corn. We are proud to offer their fine products to our Members. 2 pound bag of Stone Ground Grits or Cornmeal.

Sweet Potatoes w/ Candied Pecans

Thanksgiving would not be the same without them! We're revving up for the big Feast Day with this, the first of our holiday recipes. (This is a pretty standard recipe, we found the same one we always use on www.allrecipes.com!)

4 cups sweet potato, cubed

1/2 cup white sugar

2 eggs, beaten

1/2 teaspoon salt

4 tablespoons butter, softened

1/2 cup milk

½ teaspoon vanilla

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons butter, softened

1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

~ Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Put sweet potatoes in a medium saucepan with water to cover. Cook over medium high heat until tender, drain and mash. (We like to steam them too, so they don't have any extra water.)

~ In a large bowl mix together the sweet potatoes, white sugar, eggs, salt, butter, milk and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth. Transfer to a 9x13 inch baking dish.

~ In medium bowl mix the brown sugar and flour. Cut in the butter until the mixture is coarse. Stir in the pecans. Sprinkle the mixture over the sweet potatoes.

~ Bake 30 minutes or until the topping is lightly brown.

Roasted Chickens for Sawicki's Pickups!
Sawickis
It's been awhile since we put the reminder in about the wonderful Roasted Chickens available for Members who pickup their Moore Farms and Friends orders at Sawicki's in Decatur! The fine folks over there partially roast a Whole Springer Mountain Farm Chickens with simple seasonings and stuffed with fresh lemon and herbs. They still need to be finish roasted when you get them home so the chicken is nice and juicy. We love them here at the farm, they have become our Friday night convenience food. Often we cut them up, season, flour and fry, yum! Or you can use the breasts for stir fry, etc.
Did we mention the special Online Market Member price of $10.50?

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!
