Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Gobble Gobble Gobble we're into Turkey Month! Thanksgiving is a big

holiday for us, of course because of the Festive Family Feasting, but also because

The happy pasture-raised Turkeys from Goose Pond Farm in Hartselle, Alabama are absolutely the best we have ever enjoyed: we're fortunate to be able to offer them!

it's a time to rest and reflect

about everything we should be more thankful of everyday.

This Fall we are developing a new Online Market website (yay!)! As part of our preparation we just sent out our "20 Questions" Member Survey to request your feedback. Here is the link if you haven't already received the Survey and thanks for helping us be better than ever in 2013!

OK everything went really well this week for orders, with just two snafus: we got Carrots instead of Cucumbers in an ordering mis-communication and the Shiitake Mushrooms had to be sent back (if you ordered Shiitakes we will note your account to replace or credit your next order). We went ahead and put Carrots into the Farmer's Pick boxes in place of the Cucumber, hope ya'll are happy with that! These are Orange and Yellow varieties (not "unripe" Carrots as one Member once assumed!). Apples this week are Fuji and Pink Lady, Baby Mixed Greens may include up to three different kinds of Kale, Collards, Mustards, Lamb's Quarters and Spinach.

We're already working on the Online Market for next week with some NEW products from local farms so look for our "Online Market is Open" email Thursday.

HOLIDAY WEEK SCHEDULE
We will make deliveries to Atlanta on Wednesday November 21st with a consolidated delivery route (most Wednesday and Thursday sites). We will not have any Friday deliveries to Alabama locations so be sure to order next week or come out to shop on our Fall Farm Day!

Allergy Alerts!
If anyone in your household has a food allergy be sure to let us know! We'll note your account and flag your orders so we don't include those items for you. Fall is Pecan season and while we won't have them in our Farmer's Pick boxes every week we will have them often. We have family members with food allergies so we are very aware of how serious it is to keep allergens away from other foods. We do not package items such as nuts at the same time/place as other items so there is very little chance of cross-contamination. If you have a NUT ALLERGY we recommend you place a Custom Choice Order for weeks when we forecast Pecans for the boxes. Otherwise, we'll do our best not to include them in your order and make a replacement if at all possible.
Weekly Recipes
This week we have two variations on a basic Butternut Soup: one we adapted from our friend Judy Colins' Pumpkin and Peanut Stew (it is soooooo good!) and the other was sent to us by Member Sasha Johns from our Mt Laurel, Alabama Pickup Location (she found it when looking for a new recipe to use our Fresh Black Beans). Butternut Squash can be used to replace in any recipe calling for Pumpkin or Sweet Potatoes. We hope you enjoy one or both!

Butternut Squash Peanut Stew
The stew about half-way through cooking. We seasoned with Garlic, Ginger and Red Pepper Flakes!

Peel and cut Butternut Squash into chunks.

Sautee one large Onion in olive oil in a soup pot.

Add prepared Squash and 1 large can Diced Tomatoes.

Cook until Squash is soft, about 1 hour. It gets better the longer you cook it and best the next day for leftovers!

Add 1 cup Peanuts (or as much as you like to your taste).

Season with salt and pepper, add other spices or herbs as you like.

Roasted Chickens for Sawicki's Pickups
Sawickis
It's been awhile since we put the reminder in about the wonderful Roasted Chickens available for Members who pickup their Moore Farms and Friends orders at Sawicki's in Decatur! The fine folks over there partially roast a Whole Springer Mountain Farm Chickens with simple seasonings and stuffed with fresh lemon and herbs. They still need to be finish roasted when you get them home so the chicken is nice and juicy. We love them here at the farm, they have become our Friday night convenience food. Often we cut them up, season, flour and fry, yum! Or you can use the breasts for stir fry, etc.

You can reserve your bird when you place your weekly order for a special Online Market Member price of $10.50!

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!
