Moore Farms
Orders This Week

Our pretty and delicious Mixed Greens

Alright, Fall has definitely arrived and the effects from the big Atlantic storm this week have been challenging as we had to batten everything down to keep things from blowing away! We are so fortunate and thankful not to have been in Mother Nature's path this time (if you haven't already please consider making a small donation to the Red Cross).

OK on to the info about this week's orders: our Mixed Greens in Farmer's Picks included 2-3 different Kales, Collards, Spinach, Mustards and Turnip Greens (some orders were heavier on the Spinach just the way it worked out!). Apples from Beech Creek Farms this week are Fuji and Suncrisp: see our Member Recipe below for Homemade Applesauce! Everything went pretty well this week, we only had one glitch in that Yellow Moon Cheese Company didn't send the Red Hill Cheddar, if you ordered some we'll replace it in your next order when it arrives from the dairy!

*PICKUP LOCATION ALERTS*

We have two Atlanta sites that have been low on orders for a bit now. . .

Harry's Farmers Market in Marietta: OK ya'll we're going to let Harry's continue for now as we have heard from some folks who just found out about our program but please keep spreading the word! We had five orders this week and we really need a minimum of ten to cover delivery costs.

Stone Mountain Village: Orders are up but still not to 10, so let your friends and family know about us, we want to keep delivering our Good Food to The Village Corner every week!

Weekly Recipe
Garlicky Pasta and Greens

There are several favorite recipes we dig into when the Fall Greens start to come in, this is one of the first because it is so simple and satisfying.

1. Choose your favorite type of pasta and prepare. We like to try different sizes/shapes and sometimes make our own, too!

2. Wash, trim and roughly chop 1/2 pound Mixed Greens (our produce is not washed and ready to use, you always must wash it before enjoying!).

3. Peel and trim 2-10 cloves Fresh Garlic (as much as you like!). We use a Garlic Press to crush the cloves or you can slice them thinly.

4. In a large skillet heat 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil on medium, add Garlic, salt and Pepper and Crushed Red Pepper if you like a little heat.

5. Add prepared Mixed Greens, stir to combine and cover. Turn heat off and allow to steam for 2-3minutes.

6. Combine Garlicky Greens with Pasta, add a little more Olive Oil if necessary for texture.

We like to top off the serving plates with a grating of Yellow Moon Cheese Company's "The Farm's Parm" Parmesan, yum! This make a great side dish or lunch entree.

Member Recipe
We're happy to share this easy method for Homemade Applesauce from Member Helen Andrasko!

Cut and pare apples, being sure to remove the core from the center. Slice into less than bite size pieces and cover with filtered water, adding just a bit of salt enough to bring out the flavor without tasting the salt. Place on medium heat for about five minutes and turn to low heat. About the time you turn the heat down, drizzle honey of your choice over the top to taste. If you want to add cinnamon, do this after the sauce is cooked but still hot.

When the apples are quite soft, use a portable mixer for creamy apple sauce or potato masher for chunky apple sauce.  Allow to cool before placing in jars or other containers.  ENJOY!  Simply deelishous.

We are very proud to bring our farmer's foods to your family and we  always want to know what you think about what we do. Send us your recipes, pictures and stories and thank you for your support!

Our lunch the other day: salad made with our Mixed Greens; sliced Apples; toasted Pecans; and Edible Flowers (Pansies). Will tossed it with a Honey Vinaigrette, yum!
A prize from foraging in the woods here at the farm. . . my first Hen of the Woods mushroom! We enjoyed half of it in three different meals and we still shared the other half with two other friends.
Will and Justin started the final phase of renovations on the Corn Crib Cabin Wednesday. Thanks so much to our current, new and renewing Investment Members, you helped us to be able to get this big project done! We're adding a bathroom and bedroom and it will be Justin's home for the time being. We're thrilled that Justin has decided to stay on with us permanently! He has adopted the title "Farm Potentate" as opposed to boring old "Farm Manager". He's a great fit for us here at Moore Farms and he has made such a big impact in a short period of time. Bravo, Justin!
