New Immunization Requirement for 2015-2016 School Year

Illinois State School Code states that beginning with the school year, 2015-2016, any child entering the 12th grade shall show proof of having received two doses of the meningococcal conjugate vaccine prior to entering the 12th grade. The first two doses shall have been received on or after the 11th birthday, and the second dose shall have been received on or after the 16th birthday, at least eight weeks after the first dose. If the first dose is administered when the child is 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.

Please contact your student's primary medical care provider to review your student's immunization record and be sure they are in compliance with the new Illinois State School Code requirement for the meningococcal vaccine. Medical documentation that this requirement has been met is due in the nurse's office on or before August 1, 2015. Failure to meet this requirement will prevent your student from starting school on August 17, 2015.

Commencement 2015

The Class of 2015 Commencement Program will take place on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. in the Red Gymnasium.  This joyful, yet dignified occasion honors students who have reached a recognized crossroads in their education, which readies them to use their learned skills to improve society.  The rituals used in this ceremony are full of significance - wearing the cap and gown (a symbol of academic achievement); the procession of the graduates, school administration and faculty; the formal presentation of the graduates to the Board of Education and the assembled guests; the speeches of commendation; and the conferring of diplomas in the name of the State of Illinois - are all an important part of the ceremony.  We urge family members to 1) arrive on time (doors open at 5:00pm - guest must be seated by 5:45pm); 2) have your ticket out (including children); 3) refrain from loud and boisterous behavior; 4) stay in your seat (you will not be allowed to return if you leave to use the restroom, retrieve items from your car, etc.); 5) do not leave your seat to take pictures (a photographer will take professional pictures; and 6) do not bring flowers, balloons, etc. (please leave them at home or in your car); Once again, we ask that all family members honor their student with dignified behavior.

New Immunization Requirements

Beginning with school year 2015-2016, any child entering 12th grade shall show proof of having received two doses of meningococcal conjugate vaccine prior to entering the 12th grade.  The first dose shall have been received on or after the 11th birthday, and the second dose shall have been received on or after the 16th birthday, at least 8 weeks after the first dose.  If the first dose is administered when the child is 16 years of age or older, only one dose is required.

Please contact your child's primary care provider now to review your child's immunization record to be sure they are in compliance with this new requirement. Please take this letter with you to the doctor, so there is no confusion as to what is required by the state.  Verification of this vaccine should be turned in to the school nurse as soon as possible, with a final due date of August 1, 2015.

Acceptable documentation of the meningococcal vaccine includes:

  • A signed note or letter from a physician indicating the date the vaccine was given
  • A printed copy of your child's electronic immunization record
  • A copy of his or her school physical form that specifies the exact date(s) of the vaccine.  If any corrections or additions are made to a previously dated form, it must be re-signed by the doctor with the current date

Students will not be able to complete the registration process and therefore will not be able to attend school without correctly documented proof of the meningococcal vaccine.

If you have any questions concerning this new requirement, please contact our school nurse, Mrs. Oostman, at 708-585-2050.
