#GivingTuesday - Tell A Friend!
Tuesday, December 2, 2014

You know it when you meet a Girl Scout.

A Girl Scout shines, reflecting the light her troop has ignited within her. A Girl Scout sees herself in the stars. A Girl Scout raises her hand to lead the science experiment. A Girl Scout takes action, investing money from her cookie sale right back into her community. A Girl Scout learns how to build a fire with her own heart.

Help us continue that legacy, by investing in Girl Scouts on #GivingTuesday.

Because when you invest in girls, you are changing the world.

GSSN at the National Girl Scout Convention

The 53rd National Girl Scout Convention in Salt Lake City, Utah was a week spent making new friends from around the world and around the U.S. Whether you were observing the Delegate sessions, exploring the Hall of Experience, or having a delicious lunch around town, there were thousands of Girl Scouts smiling, laughing, and having a great time together.

Several staff attended the convention for the first time and each had their own special memory:

  • Alex really enjoyed the Conversation of Consequence: Diversity and getting her book signed by the panelists.
  • Shannon was most inspired interacting as a volunteer at the NASA booth helping girls with the rocket launchers.
  • Tish could be seen trading SWAPS with adults and girls from all over including our National CEO, Anna Maria Chavez.
  • Krista was impressed seeing all of the girls interacting with each other during their learning sessions.
  • Johanna felt the closing ceremony speaker and CEO of GoldieBlox Debbie Sterling had a powerful message about trying something new and never giving up on your dreams.
  • Adrienne enjoyed meeting and talking with one of the Young Women of Distinction Awardees whose project was called, 'The Power of Poo'.

Our Adult and Girl Delegates and GSLI crew were amazing ambassadors for GSSN and we are all looking forward to the 2017 convention in Columbus, Ohio!

A lively, dedicated team of ten girls represented the Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada at the Girl Scout Leadership Institute (GSLI) during the 53rd National Convention in Salt Lake City. In addition, three of the girls served as our council delegates with full voting rights during the business sessions. After listening to inspiring speakers and learning project management skills, they all developed their own plans for creative Gold Award projects. A special shout-out to Kaylie, one of 23 girls from around the country on the Girl Planning Team, who planned and implemented the GSLI program.

Good News from Around the GSSN Council

Troop 690 Silver Award Project

Theresa S. and Evelyn G. from Troop 690 completed their Silver Award project by organizing and repairing their middle school's archery shed. Then the girls hosted an archery clinic for younger Girl Scouts to teach them how to shoot and take care of archery equipment. Way to go Theresa and Evelyn!

Beetles and Tortoises and Butterflies - Oh My!

Troop 19 visited Nevada Bugs & Butterflies. They got to hold millipedes and beetles, meet Mojave Desert Tortoises, and play with butterflies! The girls learned all about plants and bugs, which was a perfect compliment to the Daisy Flower Garden Journey they're working on!

FInd out more about their adventure here: Beetles and Tortoises and Butterflies - Oh My!
