National Capital Chapter :  "Made in America" Tour

In June, fourteen IISE National Capital chapter members and friends went to York, Pennsylvania, for a fantastic Made in America Tours Event. National Capital President, Sean Gahagan ,coordinated the tour; where the attendees started at the Harley Davidson factory, watching automated guided vehicles moving motorcycles along an assembly line with an under two minute takt time! Later that morning, the team toured Revonah Pretzels in Hanover, amazed at their speed in rolling handmade pretzels (and enjoyed samples!). After a networking lunch, the tour continued at Bluett Violins, full of beautiful handcrafted instruments, and included a short concert by the craftsman himself. The tours showed a breadth of U.S. manufacturing, and the networking was top notch.

2016 Mexican Regional Conference ...one of the best events in Mexico!

Instituto Politcnico Nacional - UPIICSA, IISE University chapter No.735, hosted the 2016 Mexican Regional Conference held March 17-22. Attendees were fortunate to hear a different distinguished keynote speaker  each day of the conference such as Anos Cantos; personal and business coach , writer, radio and television communicator , entrepreneur and leader of women.  Conference highlights featured representatives from NESTLE and  CANACINTRA - MICROSOFT - CONAII. Attendees could also benefit from workshops, tours and much more!  Congratulations to IISE university chapter, Instituto Politcnico Nacional - UPIICSA for an amazing conference!  Read more about the conference (In Spanish)

The conference offered a tour of the ancient city of Teotihuacanlocated in the Basin of Central  Mexico. Teotihuacan was the largest, most influential, and certainly most revered city in the history of the New World, and it flourished in Mesoamerica's Golden Age. Dominated by two gigantic pyramids and a huge sacred avenue, the city, its architecture, art, and religion would influence all subsequent Mesoamerican cultures, and it remains today the most visited ancient site in Mexico.

Modeling and simulation (M&S) is a critical discipline that examines how to construct and analyze decision-making scenario models that can be applied in a wide variety of application areas. The creation of a Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Division within the Institute of Industrial & Systems Engineering (IISE) has been proposed. IISE needs your feedback!  Please take 2-3 minutes to complete this survey.

Members of the Regional Operations Board answer questions

Question?
Why did you choose your field?

Answer!  by Jennifer Cross, Vice-President for Student Development

Jennifer Cross I actually hadn't heard of industrial engineering until a recruiter at the University of Arkansas called me when I was looking at colleges.  He told me about industrial engineering, and what appealed to me most was that he described it as a cross between business and engineering.  At that time, I was torn between majoring in business or majoring engineering (civil, chemical, or ceramic).  I liked the application setting of business (big picture, organizational)  but the problem solving and analytical aspects of engineering.  Thus, when I heard about IE it sounded like the perfect fit for me and it turned out to be.
