The conference at Nashville was another success for the Sustainable Development Division (SDD). The now traditional "Giving back to the community" activity was the beginning of this conference. Participants enjoyed a great day at Urban Farm. Additional information may be found at our 
Facebook page.  The ISERC track involved 36 presentations in 10 sessions that involved aspects of Environmental, Energy Sustainability and Social Responsibility, Green Supply Chain, Non-Profit Social Sustainability, Optimization in Sustainability and in the Food Supply Chain, Reverse Sustainable Logistics, Innovation, Social Entrepreneurship for Sustainability, Urban Transportation Sustainability, and Water and Waste Management. Read more from the president

The Sustainability Division's membership continues growing. Its 2,450 members across academia and industry ask for a stronger commitment from the group of volunteers. If you want to get involved in any of the current operations or to propose a new one, don't hesitate to contact us.

Sustainability in Teaching Award

At the 2016 IIE National conference the Sustainability Division will be presenting its second annual Sustainability in Teaching award. The award will be presented to an educator who has done outstanding work in the field of Sustainability. 

Student Paper Competition

The Sustainable Development Division recognizes students are a large part of IIE membership and the Sustainable Development Division Best Student Paper award will serve to encourage students to continue developing the field of sustainability and contributing with high quality research. The winner will be presented at the IIE Annual Conference & Expo May 30 - June 2, 2016 in Anaheim, California.
Eligibility
In order to be qualified for the award, student must:
  • Submit a paper (invited or contributed) for the conference using the usual submission process.
  • Fill out an application.
  • Present their work at the Annual Conference.

Exposing Undergraduate Students to Sustainable Manufacturing Principles - Date: Nov. 12, 2015

This webinar focuses on opportunities and methods to integrate sustainability philosophies in manufacturing education. The goal of presenting these is to initiate discussions of how to successfully offer sustainability and sustainable manufacturing education opportunities to undergraduate students in current programs and to share effective methods in sustainable manufacturing education with other core industrial engineering areas (e.g. operations research and management science) and vice versa. As every year, our Sustainable Development Division selected a deserving
non-profit organization in the community where the annual conference takes place, to give our time and contribute with our engineering skills. This year the organization selected was "Hands on Nashville", an urban agriculture program.
