Lean Approach to Patient Scheduling

Date and Time:
 Oct. 27 | 2 p.m. Eastern time
Presenter: Keith A. Leitner, president and owner, Leitner Consulting Group

As healthcare resource utilization has increased, patient waiting has also risen. Past attempts to reduce waiting have usually resulted in less utilization of key resources - with huge financial implications. While this trade-off is widely known and much research and mathematical models have been published to try to optimize this trade-off, the inherent complexity of applying them to the real world schedule of most practices has been prohibitive. This webinar will clearly illustrate the root cause of the trade-off while showing a very practical and applicable way to achieve lean patient scheduling.

Staff huddles: Easier said than done

The idea of short, focused morning huddles instead of wide-ranging meetings has been gaining ground, with researchers saying they can help providers improve safety and become more productive. Experts suggest keeping the daily huddles fresh by offering thanks, sharing lessons learned, reminding staff of upcoming events and highlighting upcoming challenges.

Here's why the deal is poised to shake up the way you think about healthcare.

IOM outlines pathway to cut wait times, increase access to care

Shifting resources, changing cumbersome processes and rethinking how services are delivered can result in dramatic changes, according to the report by the IOM Committee on Optimizing Scheduling in Healthcare. The report was prompted by the high-profile scheduling issues at the VA's hospital in Phoenix, in which 40 veterans died while waiting for appointments, but apply across healthcare settings.
