SEMS: Vision for 2014-2015 | Presidents' message

For the upcoming year, SEMS aims to continue to be SEMS. SEMS should be your world-renowned, preferred knowledge society for engineering management and transformation for practitioners and academics. In order to do so, we aim to focus on two themes: Membership Retention and Quality over Quantity. Over the past five years, SEMS offerings have grown exponentially in order to serve you. Read about what SEMS offers

Tell us what you think | SEMS survey

As a knowledge service provider in engineering and management systems, it is important for SEMS to get feedback from its customers. That's you and me as members of the society. Take this short survey that seeks our feedback on (1) impact on your professional / personal advancement, (2) awareness, (3) usage and (4) additional request for service.

Thank you for your participation. Survey ends Aug.6

Transitioning from Lukasz to Eseonu | SEMS blogs

Transition: Chinweike Eseonu takes over the blog and content committee

It has been 33 months since we posted our first blog on the SEMS blog website. The initiative was originally initiated by Lukasz Mazur (University of North Carolina) and Geert Letens (Royal Military Academy Belgium) with an overall vision to become your preferred place for knowledge exchange and discussion about the engineering management topics that are critical to advance your career, whether as a student, an academic or a practitioner.

Let's read and share a book | SEMS Book Browse

Book:
Beyond the Lean Revolution: Achieving Successful and Sustainable Enterprise Transformation

Authors: Deborah J. Nightingale and Jayakanth Srinivasan

Book Review Chairs: Haleh Byrne, Product Lead for Industrial Engineering and Continuous Improvement, North Carolina State University; and Arsalan Safari, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Associate, Sociotechnical Systems Research Center, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

This book is about an effective enterprise transformation by providing a step-by-step framework for understanding the current state of an enterprise and adopting a holistic approach for its future state. This framework enables us to visualize and analyze the key components of the enterprise from different perspectives, and it determines what we need to accomplish to bridge the gap from where your organization currently stands to where it needs to be in the future. The book is well-organized with 12 chapters and two appendices. It starts with the principles and a roadmap of successful enterprise transformation, continues with enterprise analysis/architecture from different perspectives, and ends with transformation planning and execution.

Readers interested in enterprise strategy, architecture and transformation or organizational change will find the book very interesting to read.
