IIE recognizes professional chapter newsletters & editors

The chapter newsletter is the pipeline that supplies chapter members with information they need to know about. A great chapter newsletter keeps its readers captivated with interesting articles on relevant topics, chapter events and news of members' accomplishments. At the same time, the newsletter should be visually appealing, easy to read and navigate.

IIE extends a "thank you" to the following professional chapters and newsletter editors for their efforts in producing an award-winning chapter newsletter.

IIE ESPOL in Ecuador
holds interesting and innovative activities

Chapter activities held in 2013 by Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral student chapter (ESPOL) in Guayaquil, Ecuador, are certainly notable.

Who wants to be a millionaire: Organized the industrial engineering spin-off of the contest "Who wants to be a millionaire". The auditorium was full in an event like never seen before in the university.

Community project - "NAVIDAD ES JESÚS": During December, members

of the chapter volunteered and supported the project "Navidad es Jesus", which had as goal to share food and give a positive Christmas message to families in need.  A team of chapter members asked and received donations, and chapter members went to poor neighborhoods in the city to give food to families in need.

Industrial safety photo contest: Launched the industrial safety photo contest, in which students could observe which situations represent a danger in university, take a picture, propose a solution and make a message calling everybody to be safe in the university. Winners received personal safety equipment as prize.

Information stand: Set up an information stand on campus for recruiting members

Nestle Plant Tour: Organized a visit to one of Nestle's plants in the city

The chapter welcomed Jairo Alfonso Vargas, regional vice president of Central and South America Region, who recently visited the chapter.

Student Benefit! IIE Continuing Education on Campus

IIE Training Center Logo IIE's continuing education department has instituted a program through which we will come to your campus, usually on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and present either Six Sigma green belt or lean green belt training immediately followed by IIE's certification examination. And we do this for students at a discount of over 60 percent off  the regular IIE member prices.

The way the process works:

  1. Contact IIE to let us know you are interested (training@iienet.org). We will send you specific details on the costs and requirements.
  2. Pick your dates. We do have a finite number of instructors, so the sooner you select the better.
  3. Confirm a classroom or meeting room with an LCD projector and white board or flip chart availability.
  4. Promote the class to your members, other IE majors, other engineering majors, and even other related disciplines on campus.
  5. Collect the registration fee (and maybe even add a little bit on for your chapter). We can even help with an online payment system.
  6. Send the registration information to IIE headquarters.
  7. Attend the course, pass the exam, and receive your green belt certification.

Let us know if you are interested in this student benefit.
