A "shout out" to University of Arkansas, Mississippi State University and Virginia Tech for exciting membership gains

When it comes to successful member recruitment efforts, three university chapters deserve recognition. In October Mississippi State University of the Southeast Region welcomed 148 new members and 21 reinstated members to the chapter. The University of Arkansas (South Central Region) added 90 new members and 10 reinstated members to their chapter roster, and Virginia Tech (Mid-Atlantic Region) gained 4 reinstated members and 64 new members.

Thanks to these chapters for strengthening IIE's presence on campus!

Attendance at  IIE Student Region Conferences continues to grow !

Congratulations to all on the successes of IIE student region conferences in 2013!  It is the hard work and dedication of student conference chairs that results in student region conference attendance continuing to grow from year to year. The student region conference is also where IIE professional members are motivated and IIE volunteers are born.  Thank you to all university chapters who hosted a region conference in 2013.  Each was an event for which you and IIE can be proud. Upcoming issues of Chapter Leader News will feature a picture from a 2013 Region Conference.

50 members & 11 students from Morgan State University attend National Capital Professional Chapter meeting sponsored by Northrop Grumman

On Oct. 28, the National Capital Chapter convened a membership meeting at Pioneer Hall, National Electronics Museum, in Linthicum, Maryland. The meeting was a huge success. The number attending was 50, including 11 students from Morgan State University Student Chapter. Northrop Grumman sponsored the meeting space, hors d'oeuvres, and soft drinks.

Presentations by Assistant Professor Jeffrey W. Herrmann, University of Maryland, and David Rizzardo, Lean expert at the Maryland Technical Extension Service (Mtech) were excellent and both speakers engaged attendees with provocative statement and questions for the audience.

Both speakers provided convincing presentations on the benefits of lean thinking during the layout design of a facility and how it leads to higher revenue and happier customers (and in some cases survival of the business).
