 Healthcare delivery experts headline SHS conference

The Healthcare Systems Process Improvement Conference 2013, the Society for Health Systems' annual event, will feature two well-known experts in healthcare management as keynote speakers. Roger A. Gerard is an executive business partner at Thedacare, a community health system in Wisconsin consisting of five hospitals, numerous clinics and related services. He also is the owner of Sloan & Gerard Consulting. Dr. Joseph S. Guarisco is chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine and the system chief of Emergency Services at Ochsner Health System in New Orleans.

Real-time forecasting of pediatric intensive care unit length of stay using computerized provider orders

The authors conducted a retrospective cohort study to describe a model to provide real-time, updated forecasts of patients' intensive care unit length of stay using naturally generated provider orders. The study was based on over 2000 admissions to a pediatric intensive care unit. The model was designed to be integrated within a computerized decision support system to improve patient flow management.
