Life in the Womb

Jesus Was An Embryo
Life is truly wonderful! In fact, the development of human life in the womb is just amazing. Did you know that everything about you - including how tall you would be, the color of your eyes, and the color of your skin-- was all determined at the time of fertilization? Month-by-month you grew in the safety and comfort of your mother's womb until the big day of your birth finally arrived! Jesus traveled the same life journey as each of us. We called his delivery into the world to save the world Christmas. Here

U2's Bono Gets Christmas Story

After returning home from a long tour, Bono, the lead singer for U2, returned to Dublin and attended a Christmas Eve service. At some point in that service, Bono grasped the truth at the heart of the Christmas story: in Jesus, God became a human being. With tears streaming down his face, Bono realized:

"The idea that God, if there is a force of Love and Logic in the universe, that it would seek to explain itself is amazing enough. That it would seek to explain itself by becoming a child born in poverty ... and straw, a child, I just thought, "Wow!" Just the poetry ... I saw the genius of picking a particular point in time and deciding to turn on this ... Love needs to find a form, intimacy needs to be whispered ... Love has to become an action or something concrete. It would have to happen. There must be an incarnation. Love must be made flesh."

"The perfect church service would be one we were almost unaware of; our attention would have been on God." - C.S. Lewis

"Unbelievers can tolerate Christ only as long as he is stripped of his real identity." - R.C. Sproul

What Does It Mean for a Man to Lead at Home?
The Nature of Fatherly Authority
One of the things that makes fatherhood difficult in our moment in history is the almost complete collapse of a sense of authority. Legitimate, tenderhearted, unapologetic, fatherly authority in the home.

A father who understands the Bible, loves the Lord, and has surrendered his life to Christ should not apologize for being the head of the house. Instead, he should accept the privilege of bearing the weight of authority in his home-for the blessing of his wife and children. Read More   Video Clip
New Orleans Saint Leads on Racial Reconciliation
Benjamin Watson plays tight end for the New Orleans. He's quickly become a much read and followed commentator on the most sensitive racial issues of the day. After the Ferguson grand jury decision was announced one year ago, his FaceBook post went viral. Out of that personal experience, he asked and then answered the profound question: Can it ever get better?

His just released book Under Our Skin: Getting Real About Race-and Getting Free from the Fears and Frustrations that Divide Us is a serious, insightful gospel treatment of the issue that plagues the culture and the Church. He recently interviewed on Fox News about his story Here

To mark the one year anniversary of the Ferguson MO court decision, The Gospel Coalition sponsored a web event where our friend Darrin Patrick interviewed Watson about his experiences and insights as a Christian and an African American and how the gospel brings reconciliation and heals racial strife and tension. How Jesus Made Disciples by Winfield Bevins - Here
Brother, Where Is Your Identity?
Who are you? What gives a man his identity? On what foundation are you building your sense of self? Your answer, whether true or false, defines your life.

Wrong ways of defining who we are arise naturally in our hearts, and the world around us preaches and models innumerable false identities. But Jesus maps out and walks out a counterintuitive and countercultural way to know who you are. Your true identity is a gift of God, a surprising discovery, and then a committed choice.
What are the ways men get identity wrong? . Read More
Jesus Followers Among NFL Quarterbacks
It's hard to know why so many NFL quarterbacks are Christians, but it's clear that one generation of players helps shape the next...One consistent theme from Christian quarterbacks: Football doesn't last.

Kirk Cousins went from Michigan State to the Washington Redskins and addressed the permanency of Christ in an interview with Beyond the Ultimate, a website started by the NFL's Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith to promote the faith. Cousins said, "I know that football will one day end. Jesus however, and all who know Him, will live forever."

Christmas is Not for Cranks
...Christmas is the season for welcome more than warfare, for invitation more than indignation, for hospitality more than hostility. Let's look at the next [weeks] as a season of opportunities instead of a season of obstacles. Invite a friend to church. Give out a good Christian book. Ask for someone's favorite Christmas song. Bring your non-Christian family to the Sunday school program. Pray for 12 chances-one for each of the 12 Days of Christmas-to mention the Savior in the manger.

Why not put Linus's rendition of Luke 2 on your Facebook page? And while you're at it, go ahead and say Merry Christmas to anyone and everyone. Just be sure to say it with a smile and not a sneer. Read More    Check Out Linus' Classic Recitation of Luke 2:8-20 Here

Bringing the Gospel to Each Other
One of the best ways men can encourage each other with the gospel is simply with honesty and transparency. Dietrich Bonhoeffer talks about meeting each other as bringers of the gospel - I need the gospel in my brother, my brother needs the gospel in me. In some ways-this might sound odd but it's true-the gospel in me is stronger than the one in my brother, and the gospel in my brother is stronger than the one in me.

The gospel is meant to be proclaimed, it's meant to be shared. So we need to meet each other that way. We need to meet each other within the context of our sinfulness and our brokenness, and with the knowledge that neither one of us measures up apart from Christ. In this way, we give each other the freedom to be honest about our own struggles and our own sin, confessing to one another.

Brothers, Why We Can't Just Join the Revolution
Why not just join the revolution? This question seems obvious to many people who look at conservative Christians and honestly wonder why we cannot just change our views on homosexuality, same-sex marriage and the entire LGBT constellation of issues.

We are constantly told that we must abandon the clear teachings of the Bible in order to get "on the right side of history."

It's not that we don't understand the argument - we just cannot accept it. Read More
Merry Christmas Brothers!
We've packed a lot of stuff into this special Christmas edition. We hope it will give you some good ideas, resources and encouragement -- and a few laughs!

Above all, we pray it will serve to remind us all of the Father's great mercy in sending his Son to rescue us from sin and death, and from our rendezvous with hell. Because of what Jesus did for us in his obedient life and atoning death for us, we share the bond of brotherhood that is unique and unbreakable. Let us remember God is with us and for us because of Jesus!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Brothers!
