What Guys Do...
God wired men such that when we see trouble, we're inclined to move toward it, not to back away. When danger encroaches, our bent is toward protection and rescue. We see this played out daily as men move boldly and, even creatively, outside themselves to protect and liberate.

For The Birds
God's Amazing Design Romans 1:18-19 says "For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.
An example of God's orchestration of the things he has made is in this video clip. A flock of starlings take flight in what is known as a murmuration, a rare gathering that looks like dancing. HERE

Four Americans Show World What It Means To Be A Man
"The jaw of the world dropped this past week when news broke of a thwarted shooting on a French train. Childhood friends Spencer Stone, Alek Skarlatos and Anthony Sadler were vacationing in France and taking the train into Paris. Not far from the city, Skarlatos awoke to see a man holding an AK-47. He yelled at Stone, "Let's go, go!" Stone immediately jumped up, raced down the aisle, and smashed into the gunman. He held onto the shooter as the two engaged in a ferocious struggle, bullets ricocheting as they danced in the walkway.
"The gunman slashed him with a box-cutter, inflicting awful wounds on his neck and nearly severing his thumb. Stone absorbed the blows until Skarlatos knocked a Luger pistol out of the gunman's hand and picked up his AK. Skarlatos, like Stone a trained soldier, repeatedly smashed the gunman in the head. Passengers Chris Norman, a British entrepreneur, and Sadler joined in to subdue the shooter. The heroism does not stop there." READ MORE

Doing Work That Matters

Labor Day became an official national holiday in 1894 to commemorate the faithful workers of America. For many today it marks the end of summer and a day off for family outings, parades and barbecues. We Christians have a special reason to commemorate Labor Day because we worship a God who's a worker. In the opening chapter of Genesis God is seen as a worker and making us in his image he gave us work to do. In the New Testament we read his Son worked to save his people. Work is divine. It is a gift, a blessing to us,though it doesn't always feel that way.
Pastor and author Keith Welton in his new book, Working for Glory: A Theology for Doing Work that Matters, says the Bible teaches the purpose of life is to glorify God, and this gives meaning and significance to all we do, including work. The book seeks to give substantive answers to questions on work and life. It helps people to see how they can do work that really matters and persevere through difficult times. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED LABOR DAY GIVEAWAYOne of the finest treatments of what the bible says about work is Pastor Keith Welton's book Working for Glory: A Theology for Doing Work that Matters. Be the first to email us for a complimentary copy and we'll be happy to send it to you.

The Meeting 70 Years Ago That Changed Baseball Forever

70 years ago last week, in their first meeting, August 28, 1945, Branch Rickey stunned Jackie Robinson with the news he wanted him to play for his Brooklyn Dodgers and become the first African American in the Big Leagues.Rickey grilled him for hours and made him commit to three years of non-retaliation for the racial bigotry he would encounter. Rickey read to him from Giovanni Papini's book "Life of Christ" and pointed him to the biblical passages om Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Rickey then told Robinson: "We can't fight our way through this Robinson. We've got no army. There's virtually nobody on our side. No owners. No umpires. Very few newspapermen. And I'm afraid many fans will be hostile. We'll be in a tough position. We can win only if we convince the world that I'm doing this because you are a great ball player and a fine gentleman."
This is beautiful story of how the Lord used two brothers in Christ to tear down the evil racism of major league baseball and change it forever. READ MORE OF THE STORY Check out this historic meeting from the movie 42: The True Story of an American Legend HERE

Why the Gospel Must Be The Center of Ministries to Men
Every ministry to men in every church needs to make the gospel its center and anchor. Every man, whether saved or not, continually needs to hear the gospel explained, proclaimed, celebrated and lived out in its power, grace and truth.
The gospel is the announcement of what God did in Christ in 33 AD to set the captives free. It is the historic fact of what God did to save us through the perfect, righteous life Jesus lived for us and the sacrificial, atoning death he died for us. The Bible tells us this Good News is the power of God for our justification, sanctification and glorification (Romans 1:16). It is for sinners, yes, but importantly it's also for believers who need the gospel as much each day as when they first believed it and were saved. READ MORE

Brothers, Let's Spur One Another On!
"And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." Hebrews 10:24
Having each other's back and cheering for one another are not only for times of trial and temptation, but also for continually reminding the brothers (and ourselves) about the gospel of grace, power and freedom through the person and finished work of Christ. Throughout each day we all need to remember, as well as be reminded by our brothers, that the focal point of our lives and ministry is "Christ and him crucified" (1 Corinthians 2:2).
Locking Arms Together,
Dave Brown
