Court Edict Escalates War on God into the Surreal
| Omaha Beach Scene in Saving Private Ryan |
The war against God began in Genesis 3 when the enemy threw down the gauntlet, "Hath God said?" When our first parents responded "NO!", the rebellion was underway and the consequences of disobedience befell the human race. But the grace of God has overcome the darkness, the lies and deception (1 Cor 6:9-11 - Check out Pastor Garrett Kell on this passage Here)
As believers we are the beneficiaries of the Good News in Christ and we know how the war ends and about the judgment to come. So given the trajectory of the post-Christian culture we live in, the high court's ruling is not altogether surprising, But its rationale and its practical implications ( e.g. read Judge Alito's dissent) are nevertheless surreal. Chutzpah, hubris and chronological snobbery have been taken to a new level! The marriage is among many other words and institutions being redefined at an alarming clip: family, gender, tolerance, life, death and the U.S. Constitution itself. As we read through redemptive history as well as secular history, when God is defied or removed, there is no ultimate reference point for truth, right and wrong, good and evil or meaning and purpose. When everything therefore is relative, everyone does what was right in his own eyes ( Judges 17:6). The uniquely American maxim of "everybody's entitled to their own opinion" has been jettisoned for "everybody's entitled to their own truth" (unless you claim truth comes from God). In the final analysis however, God will not be mocked ( Gal. 6:7) When I read the Supreme Court's edict last week and then saw the photos of the White House lit up in rainbow colors, I recalled the sobering scene near the end of the movie Saving Private Ryan where Captain Miller turns to Sergeant Horvath and says, "Mike, we have crossed some strange boundary here. The world has taken a turn for the surreal." ENGAGE THE BATTLE WITH US: Below are several helpful articles about the Court's ruling and its implications that we hope you will read, pray about, act upon and share with others. We welcome your standing with us and other brothers across America. If there ever was a time for God's men to run to the battle (1 Sam 17:48), that time is now! Ten Reasons Racism is Offensive to God
"How could one not be moved by the events in Charleston last week? Indeed "moved" is hardly a sufficient verb. We need words like heartbroken, appalled, grieved, outraged, and disgusted. Nine brothers and sisters murdered, and after being so kind to the killer that he almost didn't go through with his wicked machinations. How can this happen? In America? In 2015? In a church? And inspired by the kind of racist beliefs we'd like to think don't exist anymore?" READ MORE

Do You Have a True Friend?
"Men are notorious for nurturing superficial friendships that center around the safer subjects of sports, business, sex and almost anything other than what's most important. We men protect our reputation and ego by surrounding ourselves with other men who want the same thing, and don't want to expose any true vulnerabilities or be held accountable for behaviors. "How's work going?" "Did you see the game last night?" is easier than "How's the marriage?" READ MORE
