"Beware of no man more than of yourself; we carry our worst enemies within us."
Charles Spurgeon
"I didn't go to religion to make me happy. I always knew a bottle of Port would do that. If you want a religion to make you feel really comfortable, I certainly don't recommend Christianity." C. S. Lewis
Luther was once asked by a parishioner, "Why do you preach the gospel to us week after week?" Luther replied, "Because week after week you forget it."
"The degree you understand the gospel is the degree to which you will enjoy it and live in the good of it."
Robin Boisvert
"If we have suffered the loss of all things in order to gain Christ - no egos to protect or scores to settle - we are free to receive his power, courage, and love. They outperform everything in this world, because they come from beyond this world. How compelling for our churches to say: "We're not taking one more step without the power, courage, and love of the gospel for the glory of Christ alone. No more status quo!"

The Ray Rice Case: Men and the Dignity of Women

"The horrifying footage of Ray Rice punching his fiancee Janay (now his wife) has now traveled around the world. Rice was originally suspended for two games for this act of abuse. Now, after the video was leaked, he's been cut from the Baltimore Ravens and suspended from the NFL. Some have defended him. He deserves a day in court, but this vicious act merits extraordinary punishment, in my limited view. "The video's most haunting footage (described here) to me: Janay, attempting to retain some dignity as people stare down at her, grasping for her purse. It's a routine movement, but she can't do it. She can't seem to get the strength to gather her things. It takes her an eternity, an awful eternity, to pick up her things."I watch this, and I think: what would I have done if I saw this? Let me turn this around and ask this of my fellow men: what would you have done?" Read more of Owen Strachan's article HERE. FYI, Owen will be one of the keynoters at WACMM's Mid-Atlantic Men's Conference Saturday April 18 at Covenant Life Church.

A Comeback for Dads in Commercial Advertising?

For many years we gotten a steady diet of TV shows and commercials depicting fathers as clueless, sniveling idiots with no parenting skills. Recently General Mills did something pretty radical in a new two-minute ad for its peanut butter Cheerios. It's noteworthy because it actually elevates and celebrates fathers. It's a remarkable, encouraging contrast to what we've been accustomed to seeing in secular media.
In the video clip below we see an intact family where dad is much engaged, full of action, wisdom and encouragement for this kids. He's on top of his game and proud to be called "Dad", which is "awesome". He says things about the difference between being a boy and being a man; he calls "boo-boo's" badges of bravery on the playground and cheers a son for "gaining muscle mass". He claims dads are "rule givers" and "heart menders".
Check it out! It's cool, fun and refreshing. While the ad's obvious goal is to sell cereal, be encouraged that the vehicle General Mills has chosen is a positive, even traditional, portrayal about the awesome role of dads. HERE

New Movie Covers Up A Hero's Faith in Christ
Angelina Jolie, the novice director of the movie Unbroken, an epic drama about the life of Olympian and World War II hero Louis Zamperini has decided to drop telling Louie's conversion to faith in Christ. By leaving out the most important part of his life and the Source of his powerful story, the movie audience is denied the full truth of God's mercy and grace in Louie Zamperini life. Set for release on Christmas Day, the movie is adapted from Laura Hillenbrand's mega-bestseller Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience and Redemption about Louie's remarkable life. The book covers how Louie Zamperini became really messed up after he returned home from the war and then how he came to faith in Christ when he heard the gospel at a Billy Graham crusade in 1949. Louie met Jesus this past July 2 at the age of 97. For information, check out these links: Movie Trailer News Report from the Christian Post
