Noah on theScreen
An Epic Heads-Up

2014 brings an epic movie based on the story of Noah. Loaded as one might expect with mega-special effects, it stars Russell Crowe (Noah), Jennifer Connelly (Mrs. Noah) and Anthony Hopkins (Methusaleh) and is written and directed by atheist Darren Aronofsky.

 .

The jury is out on whether the final cut will be a hi-tech, atheist version of spiritual mysticism or whether it will bear some, if any, resemblance  to the biblical account. If you plan to take it in, watch it as any movie with wisdom and discernment.

Why Christian Men Are Peculiar
...Odd to the World

"A real Christian is an odd number, anyway.

"He feels supreme love for One whom he has never seen; talks familiarly every day to someone he cannot see; expects to go to heaven on the virtue of another; empties himself in order to be full; admits he is wrong so he can be declared right; goes down in order to get up; is strongest when he is weakest; richest when he is poorest; happiest when he feels the worst. He dies so he can live; forsakes in order to have; gives away so he can keep; sees the invisible; hears the inaudible; and knows that which passes knowledge".

- A. W. Tozer, The Root of the Righteous

Get Your Bearings for the New Year!

Many of us make New Year's Resolutions. Some of us might even keep them. Others routinely see them fail or fade. Others don't even bother with the ritual.

But the beginning of any new year or a new season in our lives can focus us on our priorities and commitments, especially to think about our relationship with the Lord and with others. Don Whitney has written some questions below that can help us to take stock, get our bearings and move further and deeper into what is really important. Read the questions HERE

A Bible Reading Opportunity for 2014
The average person reads 200 to 250 words per minute; there  are about 775,000 words in the Bible; therefore it takes less than 10 minutes a day to read the whole Bible in a year.

The great Puritan preacher  Thomas Watson put it like this:
"A Christian without meditation is like a solider without arms, or a workman without tools. Without meditation the truths of God will not stay with us; the heart is hard, and the memory is slippery, and without meditation all is lost."

Heading Into Battle...

2014 will mark WACMM's 15th year of ministry to churches in the mid-Atlantic! The Lord has graciously given us expanding opportunities to serve the men in his church.

In addition to the nearly 42,000 men who've attended our various events, in the last four years, our web page - wacmm.org - has received 110,571 unique visitors from around the world. We get dozens of phone and email requests every week for resources, for advice and for networking. Over 7,000 men across the country receive this monthly e-newsletter. Our friend and one of luminaries of the Christian men's movement Stu Weber had this to say about this outreach:

"I just wanted you to know that I think your WACMM email/internet "newsletter" is consistently the best resource on the net--on a personal and updated basis--that I know of for ministering to men. Keep up the great work! I greatly appreciate receiving it."

Let us know if you need:

  • consulting on how to start or restart a ministry to men:
  • recommendations about men's resources;
  • speakers for events;
  • partnering to bring a WACMM event to your church
C. S. Lewis once wrote:

"Christianity is the story of how the rightful King has landed, you might say in disguise, and is calling us all to be part in His great campaign of sabotage."

So throw in with us as we head off into the 2014 campaign of sabotage with our confidence in the power of the gospel to set men free!

Have a Blessed 2014!

Good News 2014
Gospel is For Men

Many ministries to men are prone to lead with tips, techniques, methods, rules and programs to modify behavior or to promote moral therapies akin to Dr. Phil or even Oprah. Self-improvement and rule-keeping are not what Scripture offers us. Every ministry to men should first and foremost be gospel led and gospel saturated!

Why?
Because the gospel alone is (1) the power of God unto salvation, (2) the gospel is the power of God for sanctification; (3) the gospel provides the motivation for mission. Trevin Wax of LiveWay unpacks these essential truths in this video

Beware!
"Gender-neutral" Bibles
Bible
Ministries to men that are serious about dealing with gender confusion in the culture and in the church should start first by avoiding the TNIV and NIV11 translations. Both badly miss the mark regarding the textual foundation for  biblical manhood and womanhood. Here's why: HERE

Great Sex
Sex As a Parable of the Gospel

"The ecstasy and joy of sex is supposed to be a foretaste of the complete ecstasy and joy of total union with Christ. The moment we see Christ face to face .... we will be naked, yet so delighted in [our nakedness that] we will be unashamed .... The Lord God will look at us through Jesus and say, "I love you." ... Great sex is a parable of the Gospel - to be utterly accepted in spite of your sin, to be loved by the One you admire to the sky."
