10 Things to Pray for Your Wife in 2013 |
Men, here are ten things to want from God (and ask from him) for your wife:
Increase her faith - give her a rock-solid confidence that your incomparable power is only always wielded for her absolute good in Christ
Sustain her health - continue to speak your gift of health and keep us from presumption; it is by blood-bought grace
Multiply her influence - encourage and deepen the impact she has on our children. Give her sweet glimpses of it. Pour her out in love for our neighbors and spark creative ways to engage them for Jesus's sake

Biblical Chivalry
Here's a wonderfully illustrative story of what it means to be a man from the life of Samuel Proctor, Pastor of Harlem's Abyssinian Baptist Church:
"Apparently, he was in the elevator one day when a young woman came in. Proctor tipped his hat at her. She was offended and said, 'What is that supposed to mean?' The pastor's response was: 'Madame, by tipping my hat I was telling you several things. That I would not harm you in any way. That if someone came into this elevator and threatened you, I would defend you. That if you fell ill, I would tend to you and if necessary carry you to safety. I was telling you that even though I am a man and physically stronger than you, I will treat you with both respect and solicitude. But frankly, Madame, it would have taken too much time to tell you all of that; so, instead, I just tipped my hat." |

Why Jesus Is Not Safe but He Is Good |
In today's politically correct culture writhing in tolerance and relativism, Jesus is often portrayed as a bearded Mr. Rogers who wants everyone, especially men, to be nice and safe. To be like Jesus means not to judge or give offense but above all be tolerant.
Talk about drinking the Kool Aid, nothing could be further from the truth. It's significant that Scripture calls Jesus the Lion of Judah. C. S. Lewis picks up on this theme in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where Susan and Lucy ask Mr. and Mrs. Beaver to tell them about Aslan, the lion in the story who is the Christ-figure. They ask if Aslan is a man, and Mr. Beaver replies: READ MORE |
