Featured Artist, November 2012
Jim Rodgers

Autumn on Hunter Mountain by Jim RodgersBorn in New Jersey and now a resident of Pennsylvania, Jim Rodgers studied at the Art Students League in New York City, as well as the Ridgewood Art Institute, where he studied landscape painting.

Rodgers paints a wide range of subjects and subject matter, from lush American and European landscapes to intimate genre paintings, as well as elegant and sophisticated still life and floral renderings. His paintings reflect richness in tone and color that are the result of more than 30 years of professional study and artistic sojourns throughout the United States, England, Ireland, France, and Italy. These journeys helped to produce the subject matter and inspiration that is the basis of his painterly impressionistic style. He currently resides in the bucolic countryside of Lancaster County in Pennsylvania, where he enjoys capturing the quiet, sylvan landscapes of farm country on canvas.

Cap Antibes Cove by Jim RodgersRodgers’ intention is to capture the mood of the scenes he has painted “en plein air,” and rendered in his studio to give the viewer a glimpse of what he has experienced. He tries to evoke an emotional response from the viewer through his poetic portrayal of nature and his concept of a tranche de vie — slice of life — vision.

Rodgers’ work is in the private and corporate collections of such patrons as Charles Foster, the Vice President of Dunn and Bradstreet, Dr. Elias Hebeka, President of Warner Lambert, Richard T. Merriman, President and CEO of Pennsylvania Trust, John W. Schmidlin, Chairman of JP Morgan, Joseph M. Goryeb, President and COO of Champion Mortgage, CNBC spokesman and Wall Street investor, Peter Kenny, jazz musician Michael Franks, NHL star Pat LaFontaine, and Mark Rockefeller.

Rodgers has been affiliated with the Morris County Art Association in Morristown, New Jersey, the Duchess County Art Association in Millbrook, New York, the Salmagundi Club in New York City, and the Delaware Art Museum. He has also received numerous awards, including prizes from RS Galleries Juried Exhibition; the Rochelle Art Association; Best in Show, CCA National Show at Ridgewood Art Society; Abigail & Willys Silvers Award, Bianco Gallery Show; and Best in Show, R.S. Galleries Juried Exhibition, Las Vegas. He is prolific by nature, and has had more than 26 one-man shows, with several recent shows nearly selling out.

All are welcome, admission is free, and his paintings are available for acquisition. “The Little Treasures Holiday Show” begins right before Thanksgiving, opening November 17, and runs through Christmas Eve, December 24, 2012.
