Michael Feinstein
Change of Heart
The Songs of André Previn
André Previn, whose career spans seven decades, is a music icon, establishing a stellar presence in classical, jazz, opera, film scoring and musical theater.
Michael Feinstein's own vast catalog of recordings features several albums on which he is accompanied by legendary songwriters, performing their own tunes, including Jule Styne, Burton Lane, Hugh Martin and Jay Livingston. So it's no surprise that Michael approached André Previn with the concept for Change of Heart.

Twelve Months of Notes
It was one year ago that Danielle Rogers agreed to lead the team that would create Notes from a Cocktail Napkin: The email newsletter that's all about YOU and THE MUSIC! It was difficult to tear her away from her favorite pastime, creating the shiniest toilets in Tennessee. But her degree in mass communications had grown rusty and she needed a creative challenge.
One year of Notes from a Cocktail Napkin, including this one, are available for your review and reminiscing here. There you will find solid evidence of our efforts to introduce you to "You." Issue after issue, filled with stories about Martini in the Morning listeners doing something. Anything. Special, unique, and certainly noteworthy. You'll also find information on new CDs, concert appearances and more, as we focus on YOU and THE MUSIC.
Thanks too, to our entire team, in order of their height, Danni "LaLa" Chaso, our editor Danielle Rogers, Mother Miriam Garfield, John Van Camp, Lauren Brunjes, and Brad "Martini" Chambers. |

Greetings!
A Note from the Editor...
Spring has officially sprung...but...I'm not sure the weather realizes it yet.
But have no fear! This issue of Notes is perfect company for any day, regardless of the elements. Sit back, relax and enjoy another issue packed full of all things martini.
Read about Brad's exciting announcement to celebrate Mother Miriam. It's definitely something you won't want to miss! Read on to meet fellow lounge lizards Heather Bailey and Cheryl Runyon, test out three tasty and simple weather-proof recipes and even take a trip "across the pond" (unless you're already there, of course) to see how MITM plays a role in businesses world-wide. Interested in what's new on the music scene? Take a peek inside the artists behind two new releases -- Michael Feinstein and Molly Ringwald (yes, that Molly Ringwald).
As always, all of us who put Notes together are so thankful you've taken time to connect to your MITM community through its pages. You've been with us for a year of issues. Wow...a year. It's hard to believe we've been cranking them out for that long. Even though it's a lot of work for many folks, it is - without a doubt - worth it. We hope you agree.
Now, grab your coffee or favorite cocktail and jump right in!
Here's to another great year of issues...cheers!
- Danielle Rogers

What will I ramble about this time?

A Mother on a Mission
It all started with kvetching, clearly her area of expertise. Miriam Garfield's call to the request line at the old "Fabulous 690 AM" in Los Angeles led her to where she is today. For better or worse, she is the "Queen Mum" of the kingdom that is Martini in the Morning. She will do pretty much anything in her power to keep MITM afloat, a determination that has her involved with sponsors and advertisers, investors, bill collectors, as well as a certain radio personality with whom she clashes regularly and publicly on MITM.
Now as Mother Miriam approaches her 75th birthday, we invite you to join us in honoring this mother of a Martini in the Morning supporter. Read all about Mother Miriam's career trajectory here at MITM, and her Diamond Jubilee celebration, Monday, June 24th at Hollywood's legendary Catalina Jazz Club, a party fit for a queen. The invitation list includes a couple hundred of her closest friends (including you!), with entertainment featuring Ron Jones' Influence Jazz Orchestra and a list of guest vocalists that would fill out the MITM playlist quite well. Click here for the rest of the story.

Foreign Desk
As we begin the second year of Notes from a Cocktail Napkin, we are even more committed to proving that it is indeed a small world. This newsletter is all about you and the music, and we will continue in our efforts to bring you a little closer to one another. Foreign Desk Editor, Danni Chaso (aka LaLa from London), will embark on a year long trip around the world, introducing you to businesses across the USA and around the world who play Martini in the Morning in their offices, workshops, factories, stores and restaurants. One such business, Flatschers Bar and Restaurant in Vienna, Austria, even puts their money where their music is, as an MITM sponsor. Click here to begin this round of the world journey.

Sharing the Martini
| Heather Bailey is not shy when it comes to sharing the martini, or much of anything, really. Visiting the MITM Chat Lounge from time to time as work permits, Heather and a group she knew only from chat, agreed to meet up in New York for dinner and a night with Steve Tyrell on stage. If she can meet a group of virtual friends (or virtual strangers) in the big apple, introducing friends, family and even total strangers to her favorite radio station should come easy. The picture above is a screen shot of Heather's phone she posts on Facebook to encourage her friends to do as she does, TuneIn (sic, a reference to her regular use of the TuneIn Radio app for mobile devices) to Martini in the Morning. Click here to read as Heather explains her sharing ways. |

last call
One of our first Notes from a Cocktail issues was a tribute to the mothers in our life. As Mother's Day approaches, this issue also salutes Mom. Cheryl Runnels is a Mom and creates stuff Moms will love. Mother Miriam is a REAL Mother (If you know what I mean). But there's one Mom I want to point out because of what she does for me and our kids, as well as what she puts up with enabling me to keep MITM going.
My wife, Karen Chambers is so much more than a Mom. As I've told anyone who will listen long enough to hear our story, Karen had two kids of her own when we met. I came with baggage. Two kids, some bills, and a lot of wreckage. Karen took us in, kids, baggage, everything. In Boise last week, as we celebrated a big milestone for her newest antique store, the Boise location of L.A. Junk, I witnessed something else worthy of celebration. It was Karen's relationship with our kids and Grandkids. She makes no distinction between hers, mine, or ours. They're ALL her kids and she loves them and is Mom to all of them.
In July, Karen and I celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Our oldest daughter Callie said in her relationship, she wants what we have, her Mom and me. Should we tell her it's been years of hard work, struggle, patience, and a LOT of love. Callie will be 32 in September. I guess she'll figure it out on her own. Oh yeah, our 25 years of marriage, kids in their 30's ...the math doesn't work, but that's the beauty of this family. Even though on paper, a lot of things don't add up, Karen's love, for me, for our kids, our Grandkids and for those who love our kids and Grandkids, that's what holds it all together. To my Karen and the family we love together, I love you all.
To you, thanks for letting me share my love for my family - they're the people who have made the greatest sacrifice as I've labored to bring you the greatest songs ever written. Thanks for listening and for your support!
Cheers!

Brad "Martini" Chambers
