CNY Arts joins arts and culture organizations across New York State in appreciating the efforts of our Legislature and Governor Cuomo in supporting the New York State Council on the Arts with an increase of $5,000,000 for arts grants. These funds will provide valuable assistance to arts groups and artists across the state.
Many of you wrote to your elected representatives in the Assembly and Senate, or to the Governor, to encourage this increase for NYSCA support. We'd like to thank you for your efforts, and now encourage everybody to thank their legislators and the governor for this $5 million increase for NYSCA.
While there is always more work to be done to ensure the continued support of all of our arts, culture, history, and heritage agencies, this is a great moment for the arts sector in New York State.

What We Have Planned For gotoCNYArts.org |
Your CNY Arts Events Calendar, gotoCNYArts.org, launched officially two years ago this month. In May 2013, we had 144 arts groups and artists registered on the directory and able to submit events. Now on its two year anniversary, it's important to recognize that number has grown to 688 registered users. We have supported these users and the events they submit, with $300,000 in advertising to residents and visitors, through funds provided by the IDEAS Collaborative, the New York State Council on the Arts, and Empire State Development.
The entire system has grown rapidly, but we always have opportunities for enhancements. With the support of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, we have the following changes coming down the pike.
- We're going to push events to more websites, to make sure people everywhere can easily find arts and culture information (and arts providers don't have to spend all day filling out calendars)
- We will add accessibility search options so those with hearing, visual, and mobility impairments can find arts events can find cultural offerings that meet their needs.
- We're going to let you save customized searches so you can get just the information you want, right away.
- And we'll give you a heads up on the best places to eat, shop, and park your car near your favorite arts venues.
And, of course, we will continue to promote the calendar, and all of the events inside, in print, over the air, and on the web. So wish gotoCNYArts.org a happy anniversary by linking to the calendar from your website (you can use the image above), and join us as we look forward to many years to come! |
