nysca logo white bkgd

CNY Arts is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2014 New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) Decentralization awards for Cortland, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Onondaga, and Oswego counties. In total, 92 community arts projects, individual artist commissions, and arts education projects received $159,950 through six highly competitive panel processes.

All of the funded projects and panelists can be found here and further down in the newsletterCNY Arts thanks the 41 panelists (listed below), from the six county region for their hard work and dedication to supporting high quality, accessible art and for making this year's grants possible.

The panels had to make some very difficult decisions this year with 133 individuals and organizations that requested $433,000 to support over $1.6 million in arts, culture, history, and heritage project expenses. Requests exceeded funds available by an almost 3:1 ratio. CNY Arts is genuinely grateful to all of those that applied for 2014 Decentralization funds.

CNY Arts is excited for all the upcoming projects and events. Keep an eye out for Decentralization events near you through gotocnyarts.org.

Michael Harms Theater Festival this April!

The 2014 Michael Harms Theater Festival is fast approaching; the curtain rises on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Cayuga Community College. The Festival seeks to foster greater interest in theater work by students and teachers in secondary schools. It has gained wide recognition as a theater experience of high educational value and fun, and provides a rare opportunity for students and teachers to display their outstanding acting and technical achievement in front of their peers and professional theater practitioners.

The 2013 Festival was attended by more than 150 students and adults from four schools and two community theater groups: Auburn High School, Jamesville-DeWitt High School, the Media Unit, Nottingham High School, Oswego Children's Theater, and Skaneateles High School Drama.

In addition to competitive performances, the Festival provides students with a chance to take high-quality workshops led by theatrical professionals currently working in their fields.

Find out more about the Harms Festival and get registration forms on the Michael Harms Theater Festival page at www.cnyarts.org

Always Looking for Arts News!

CNY Arts is always looking for arts news with a regional, statewide, or even national bent. If there is a unique arts happening in your area, an innovative development or marketing technique, an advocacy call-to-action, please email us at communications@cnyarts.org. Try to include "newsletter" in the subject line.

We also feature listings of volunteer and intern positions, job postings, workshops and classes, and grant opportunities. If you have something that you want to share, pass that along as well.

With a 6000 square mile service area with thousands of individual artists and arts, culture, history, and heritage organizations, we are not able to use this space to promote individual arts events. To have your events listed, please submit them to gotocnyarts.org.
