Help Support CNY Arts

Much has changed since CNY Arts (then the Cultural Resources Council) was founded in 1957, but the need to support arts, culture, history, and heritage providers remains as strong as ever.

How do we know this? We know because grant requests from individual artists and community arts programs are up 30% over last year. We know because a growing number of cash-strapped urban and rural schools are requesting subsidized tickets for hundreds of students to attend our arts education production of The Adventures of Rudolph. We know because 375 artists and organizations - seeking help to promote their shows, events, and products - have signed up for our online directory, and have consistently submitted events to gotocnyarts.org in the first six months of its operation.

And we know because we ask. Over 7,200 members of the community took the time to tell us about their priorities when it comes to arts and culture in our region. Over 600 artists and arts, culture, history, and heritage organizations told us what they need to thrive. The community is telling us what they need, and CNY Arts is here to provide the solutions. We are already having an impact, but we need your help!

Artists are asking CNY Arts for support. We are asking you for support to help us meet their needs. Your donation, no matter how small, will help keep gotocnyarts.org and the CNY Arts Directory as free resources for artists to promote their work. It will help us increase student and community exposure to the arts. And it will help CNY Arts as we work to strengthen arts, culture, history, and heritage to make a more vibrant and vital community.

Central New York needs creative individuals working in our communities. Our children need arts education opportunities that our school systems are increasingly hard pressed to provide. And our working artists and cultural organizations need sustainable funding, an effective infrastructure, and the added opportunities that a strong arts council can deliver.  We hope that you will help meet this need; please be as generous as you can.

Thank you,

Catherine Gerard

Public Performance
Saturday, December 14, 11am
Crouse Hinds Theater
Syracuse, NY  13202

The Central New York holiday tradition, The Adventures of Rudolph, is back for its 35th year! Tickets are on sale NOW for this narrated ballet for the whole family, presented by CNY Arts, directed by Deborah Boughton, and performed by students from Dance Centre North. To celebrate the anniversary, we have created an ornament commemorating The Adventures of Rudolph! These will be available for purchase at the theater on the day of the performance.

Tickets are on sale at the Syracuse Opera Box Office Monday through Friday from 12pm - 4pm, or by phone by calling (315) 476-7372 from 10am - 4:30pm.  Tickets are also available online here.

You can help send a child to see Rudolph!

As schools trim their budgets due to funding cuts in these economic times, field trips and arts education programming are not easily accessible. Exposure to the arts is limited for many schools and students in Central New York. We receive numerous request for full and partial scholarships to provide tickets to those students. These requests often come from inner city and rural school districts that cannot afford the tickets or transportation costs.

All funds donated to the Rudolph Scholarship Fund go directly towards getting students into seats by covering ticket costs. The more money we raise, the more children we can invite to attend.

Thank You to Everyone Who Helped with DEC!

CNY Arts extends a major thanks to all the organizations and individuals who helped with the coordination of workshops and seminars, all of our panelists, and, of course, the many artists and organizations that do terrific work in the arts year-round and applied for assistance this cycle.

As of December 2, 2013, the Decentralization portal (Artstart, Individual Artist, and Community Arts) officially closed. In total, CNY Arts received 132 applications from across our 6000 square mile service area. This is a 30% increase over last year's applicant pool. We are delighted to see an increase in artistic and cultural projects serving the community.

Panels will continue to review applications through December. CNY Arts will notify applicants of their award status by the first week of January.

These grants are made possible with public funds from the State and Local Partnership Program of the New York State Council on the Arts, a State Agency.
