Over 200 Help Celebrate CNY Arts 'On My Own Time'
 |
State Senator John DeFrancisco speaks about the value of arts programs like On My Own Time
|
Over 200 people attended the CNY Arts 40th annual On My Own Time artists' celebration at the Everson Museum of Art on September 20, 2013. New York State Senator John DeFrancisco, Deputy County Executive William P. Fisher, and Mayor Stephanie Miner each spoke at the event to recognize On My Own Time's 40th year, and to honor the hundreds of companies and artists who have been a part of On My Own Time over the last four decades. Mr. Fisher presented a proclamation on behalf of Onondaga County Executive Joanie Mahoney naming the day as "CNY Arts 'On My Own Time' Recognition Day."
69 works of original visual art were selected to be displayed in the month-long, grand finale exhibit at the Everson Museum of Art, out of 349 pieces submitted this year. They were created in a wide range of media by employees of fifteen local businesses and organizations. On My Own Time is a Central New York tradition developed in 1974 by CNY Arts (then the Cultural Resources Council). The program draws on the talents of dozens of employees in Onondaga and Oswego County who are not professional artists. On My Own Time is a platform for companies to demonstrate their appreciation of their employees' creativity and their strong support of art and culture in their communities.
Local volunteers from professional arts fields visited individual exhibits of employee works at each participating company this past spring and adjudicated the visual arts pieces, which included paintings, drawings, ceramics, wood work, jewelry, metal work, photography, glasswork, sculpture, mixed media, textiles, and more.

Adventures of Rudolph Tickets On Sale Now!
Watch as Rudolph flies! Can Rudolph save the day when Evil Witch Winter Grey tries to stop Santa from making his deliveries on Christmas Eve?
Public Performance
Saturday, December 14, 11am
Crouse Hinds Theater
Syracuse, NY 13202
The Central New York holiday tradition, The Adventures of Rudolph, is back for its 35th year! Tickets are on sale NOW for this narrated ballet for the whole family, presented by CNY Arts, directed by Deborah Boughton, and performed by students from Dance Centre North. To celebrate the anniversary, we have created an ornament commemorating The Adventures of Rudolph! These will be available for purchase at the theater on the day of the performance. Tickets are on sale at the Syracuse Opera Box Office Monday through Friday from 12pm - 4pm, or by phone by calling (315) 476-7372 from 10am - 4:30pm. Tickets are also available online here. You can help send a child to Rudolph! As schools trim their budgets due to funding cuts in these economic times, field trips and arts education programming are not easily accessible. Exposure to the arts is limited for many schools and students in Central New York. We receive numerous request for full and partial scholarships to provide tickets to those students. These requests often come from inner city and rural school districts that cannot afford the tickets or transportation costs. All funds donated to the Rudolph Scholarship Fund to directly towards getting students into seats by covering ticket costs. The more money we raise, the more children we can invite to attend. |

Thank you to all who participated so far in ENGAGE CNY, our governor awarded project to assess the region and develop a regional cultural plan. We received a tremendous response to all of our surveys and our research team is hard at work sifting through the data to provide our region with the tools necessary to create a comprehensive and transformative cultural plan.
To date we have heard from over 7100 voices in our public opinion survey, over 500 artists and creative professionals, and 120 arts, culture, history, and heritage organizations. This phenomenal response to an arts and entertainment survey is proof of how much the region's residents care! If you took a survey, referred someone to a survey, or shared the survey with your networks, thank you. And thanks also to our Leadership Advisors, co-chairs, and regional arts captains.
Lest we forget, the first round of our Gift Card winners have been notified and will receive their rewards soon! Congratulations go out to:
